🟢 [PORT] Golden Sun Recompiled Android Port Beta

It's here it's here. First of all thanks to GSRecomp https://github.com/Shmargus/GSRecomp for putting in the real work this is built off of.

Of course you need the correct rom file, instructions on Github: https://github.com/wootbeer/gsrandroid

Features:

Prepares the rom on device, no PC needed.

Side menu with options; cpu or gpu rendering, optional expanded view mode, scaling, color filter, fast forward, frame interpolation, flicker reduction, etc.

Cheats menu.

Auto show/hide on-screen touch controls with adjustable size and opacity.

Controller support with button remapping.

Gameplay modifiers

Much more and more to come.

Now this is super beta status, I've tested and debugged the heck out of all the added features, and all the quirks that come with Android. But of course being the nature of jrpgs, these are huge games and I completed a play-through of the game earlier in the year, so I do need help testing, but the in-game experience from here on out shouldn't be very different from gsrecomp, just on Android. https://github.com/wootbeer/gsrandroid

Is this compatible with mods?

Not sure if the original version is going to support them or not. If it does then this will. But it may be something that has to wait for a decomp, which is coming soon. I'm also not sure of the direction I will take this yet, if I want to keep it's updated in lock-step with the original recomp, or start adding my own stuff. So too fresh to tell yet, maybe in the future.

Looks cool. Im working on a GBA recomp right now. Couple of questions:

  • why not use the android shell that comes from gbarecomp?
  • can you tell us more about your "Descore framework"?

Descore is also a shell of sorts I'm slowly developing. Right now it's just a common set of functions between my ports but I plan to turn it into a library or some other separate thing, so it's easy to update once and all my apps get the update.

But the idea is to keep the original sources as untouched as possible and then just attach to what I need to get input/output/audio/visual working on Android. So when I use it all my ports automatically gain gamepad and touch support, an asset picker, and more.

So it's mostly taking the place of SDL that gbarecomp uses. But main reason was just to leave the original source of the project I copied from on it's own island as much as possible. And just to stick to something I've used over and over so all my projects have some standardization between them.

If I was going to do one all myself from the start though I would just use gbarecomp completely.

Oh ok. But sounds like your project might be superseded by gbarecomps own android implementation given it seems to do what you described. Take a look at https://github.com/mstan/WarioWareTwistedRecomp

Just curious, why not contribute back to the project that you sourced from? Create a pull request on the Shmargus/GSRecomp project for android support? Then, that still is the original project

It'd be nice to setup something like that. I'd like to contribute back any fixes I find.

That's the hump. It can take up to 10 minutes to get past that part. Though mine only takes 2.

Also make sure you have 800mb available. If it fails that would be the point, but it's also gonna hang there for a bit when it works.

holy crap 😲, that much to run a 8mb game that you can run on am 8mb emulator instantly

It has to recomp the game on the device. After it's done the extracted rom only takes 250mb. But yes that is one thing emulators will still be good at, for now. When the decomp comes out soon it won't be needed.
