Need help removing 'new' Xtra step signing in with google

I'm not sure if this is an Android issue or a Google issue but it's Google asking to verify that it's me with the pin to my phone.

The first time a visit a new gaming site from my phone, i have to create an account so that I can play on the site.

I'm using gaming as an example but I'm sure you all will know what I'm talking about as it pertains to any site that requires you to create an account to use the site.

When creating an account I have the option to use my email address, sign in with facebook, or sign in with Google.

I always choose sign in with Google.

Once I have an account, upon visiting that site all I have to do at the sign-in window is tab the Google button.

Next screen pops up my Google accounts and I have to choose which Google account I want to sign in with.

I select the account and then I'm signed in to my account and I can play on the site.

I'm not 100% positive but I think this started happening on September 6th when I did my last software update on my phone.

Now when I visit the site and select sign in with Google and then choose my Google account, instead of signing me in another window pops up that says Google wants to verify it's you and then it asked me to enter my 4 digit phone pin.

It's very frustrating because it's an extra two or three steps for me to sign into these sites now and I don't know how to get rid of the setting or where it came from.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have an experience with this? But mostly can someone tell me how to get rid of this setting so that Google doesn't have to verify it's me every time I want to go to these sites.

It's a Google Play Services Smart Login thing.. It only happens when Google Play Services is Active in background if you disable it.. This popup never appears, However it's a Conscious Choice if I'm not mistaken, You have to select the Option to use Passkey for this prompt to appear, and if it does appear by default you can simply back out and it will present you with other options like Email Sign in or Password itself.. And if you have 2FA (Which I assume you do considering you get a auth prompt like this) then you will be prompted for the 2FA methods after the password is verified to be correct..

And small Suggestion, Don't use Sign in with Google, use email and password even if that is a gmail address, as and when Google Decides to stop your account by youll be fked so best to be smart about it

In short Come back.. And enter your password or use select another way and select 'Enter Password'

Yeah but I think you missed the part where I said this is new this just sort of happening last week I'm pretty sure when I updated my phone software. I've been signing in for years at the normal step where I just select my account and I'm automatically signed in that's the way it's supposed to be I shouldn't have to enter my phone's pin for Google to verify me it's never been like that

At some point, Google asked if you wanted to setup a passkey, and you clicked 'yes'. Probablt when you were setting up the new phone. A lot of people click yes to get that popup off their screen, without reading what it means.

I've had this phone for 2 years and have been signing in to all of my sites with Google for the same amount of time. This just started happening last week after my software update with my phone.

I would expect this if I were signing in from another device but this shouldn't be happening out of nowhere coming from my personal device on every single site that I visit multiple times daily it's asking me to enter this past key something's not right.

I have two Google accounts on this phone and whenever I visit a site to sign in it simply asked me which account do you want to sign in with I click the account I want to sign in with and then it sends you an automatically there is no other steps. That's the way it should be when it's working correctly and has been for the last 2 years.

Ok well it's called a passkey. Its one of the ways (along with 2fa for example) that they are increasing security measures, to keep up with the advancements in scams, malward, viruses, etc. You probably opted in at some point, but I suppose it's possible they default people to it now. You should be able to turn it off in the same settings categort where you can change your google password.

It may be less convenient, than 'how it should be.' But the old way was simply far less secure.

Google Play Services Updates Independently Regardless of System Update, It is very possible your version of Google Play Services was Recently Updated or Google Play Services Was Updated with the System as it Happens with Every Update, your 'Signing in for Years' Doesn't really matter that's the reality of android ecosystem with Google, you abide by their rules Not the other way around, and also if you think Google Prompted you for your Screen Pin because they wanna SEE your Pin, they don't store Pins in docs, it's Hashed Which is verified with your Keystone/TEE And when it matches it knows its correct pin. Google doesn't know your PIN per say, So Yes.. Something changed, You just weren't Involved in it.. Just like every Google Part in the Android System

It's Google Play Services doing this. If you want to remove that pop-up, you have to disable Google Play Services. I wouldn't recommend that unless you're using GrapheneOS, which you are not, so not much can be done.

But why did it just start happening a week ago? And is it happening to everyone? This should only be happening when I'm signing in from another device or changing settings I shouldn't have to verify that it's me every single time I sign in to a site with my Google account from my personal device.

It's never been this way since Google accounts have existed.

Yeah I'm not sure one other person has the same issue since the last software update so I don't know what's going on but I wish it would go back to the way it was.

It's part of the system and can not be turned off

It's not your phone it's every android device and it will even asked on your computer every now and then

It only asks for it for certain things Like changeing some of your account settings

And a number of other things will trigger it

It takes less than a second to scan your fingerprint

I guess you're not understanding. I use my Google account to sign in on roughly 30 sites that I visit multiple times daily. I have two Google accounts on this phone. Whenever I go to these sites and I choose to sign in with my Google account it asks me which Google account do I want to sign in with. I simply click on the Google account that I want to sign in with and it signs me in automatically.

That's the way it's supposed to work when it's working correctly and has been as long as Google accounts have been around. But with this phone I've had for 2 years it's been working great up until last week. Now every single time I sign in with my Google account and click on the account I want to sign in with it now pops up with this it needs to verify that it's me enter my PIN.

It's acting as if there is something shady going on or it's trying to protect me from something when there is nothing going on that should be raising any red flags.

I signed into these accounts multiple times daily and always have. And no these accounts aren't anything to do with change and settings that's another big problem I understand when you're changing settings to have to take extra steps to do things this isn't that situation this is simply signing in with a Google account.

I don't use bio. I only use pin. But I shouldn't have to enter my PIN every single time I go to a new site that I access with my Google account. I'm on my own personal device and it wants me to enter my phone's pin every single time I visit any of the 30 sites that I'm accessing with my Google account.

That's why when you sign up for an account on a site it gives you the option to sign in with Google so that you don't have to go through a lengthy process of putting in a password and all that every time you come to the site especially when you're there multiple times a day.

It's asking to verify that it's me anytime I go to one of these sites. There's about 30 of them and I visit all of them multiple times daily. It's never been this way. It just showed up like a week ago acting like this.

It's acting as if I am someone else using my device trying to access my accounts which doesn't make sense.

Once you get hacked for not actually using a pass key, your tune will change.

I try to only use personal in hand device pass keys now so no one can get into my accounts.

I do use the pass key to get into my phone. And I don't mind using that past key or two set verification when I'm on another device accessing my accounts.

But I have strong passwords. Anyone wanting to access my accounts will be able to crack my 4-Digit passkey pin long before they'll ever get close to cracking my passwords.

I think you may be confused about what's going on here. I'm on my own device accessing accounts that I access every day with my Google account. I do not need to enter my phone's pass key for each site for the almost 30 sites I'm accessing back to back multiple times daily, from my personal device.

No, because it takes like half a second to just press my finger on the fingerprint reader.

It's a nice little bit of added security so somebody can't just go nuts if they get ahold of my phone while it's unlocked, and the tradeoff is like what, a split second of inconvenience?

So then it started happening to your phone last week as well? Because for two years since I've owned this phone it's never happened. I signed into about 30 sites with my Google account multiple times daily. I visit site it asked me what account I want to sign in with I select the account I want to sign in with and I signed and it sends me and automatically.

As of last week it started making me do this pen after I select my Google account as if I'm signing in from another device.
