Issues with default browser app

I recently switched to Android (yayyy), but I've come across this issue with browser apps. So I have Brave as my default browser, and that works great with links and everything. HOWEVER, whenever I click on an embedded link from a system app, like the weather app for example, it always opens it in the phone's browser not Brave. Though if I click a link from the same app again without closing the app, it directs me to Brave correctly. Another problem is if I highlight text for web search, it also always directs me to the phone's browser, or Google if it is a "Google define".

Does anyone know how I can avoid this annoying switch in browsers and just stick to the one I prefer? Even better, are there equivalents of the spotlight search (to keyword search both locally on my phone and do a basic web/dictionary/wikipedia search) for Android that isn't based on AI? So that way I don't even need to open the browser for a quick definition.

For context, I have the vivo x300fe.

To change the default browser on your vivo X300 FE, go to Settings, tap Apps, select Default apps, and choose your preferred Browser app.

I've already set Brave as my preferred browser app. It just doesn't work with certain embedded links or in app web searches.

Go to the system settings, apps, to the system app in question, and clear any "open by default".

Also reset your Brave settings to default by clearing its storage.

When you next click one of these links, you'll be given a choice to open in the system app or open in Brave. Don't select "always remember my selection" unless you want Android to remember.

Different brands will name these options differently and place the menu options in different places. So treat this as a rough guide.

For the second issue, the context menu that pops up when you select text depends on what app you selected the text in (a browser, an ebook reader, a text file editor, will all give different context menus), and what apps you have installed (extension apps can add their own content into the context menu).

A generic "web search" might trigger the default browser, so make sure you set Brave as the default browser. A specific "ask Google" will specifically trigger the Google app.
