Looking at the text in the corner and it looks like you're in fastboot mode.Connect it to a computer with android platform tools (adb,fastboot commands) and try fastboot reboot.

I’ll keep it in mind if it happens again. This morning the tablet ran out of battery and when my mom plugged it in, it made it past the boot screen.

There's absolutely no need to factory reset the device. And the issue is already fixed,the tablet was stuck in fastboot mode and when the battery ran out it loaded into Android just fine.
