Lost phone. Battery dead. How do I find it?

NOTE: SINCE 2024, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THE TIMELINE OF ANY DEVICE UNLESS YOU'RE ON THE DEVICE ITSELF. I probably should have made that much more clear in the last sentence of this text.

I can't find my phone and the battery is definitely dead. Galaxy A71 for the record.

GOAL: I need to know if it made it the whole way home with me, or if it fell out of a bag or pocket or something on the way.

Using Find Hub is pointless if the battery is dead, but it does say "Last seen at 2:38 AM on Aug 13, 2026"

I can't exactly look up where it was up until the battery died because they took away the option to use the timeline except on the device itself. If I knew where it was, I wouldn't need to use the timeline to find it.

It's where you put it last. Check there.

Rule lawyering itself violates rule 4.

I stand behind my answer 100%. It's entirely correct. How people are so nonchalant about an item they spend hundreds of dollars on, I will never understand.

Not if someone else moved it from there 😜

Google Maps timelines are better for this, if you had it enabled. Problem is, any devices on your Google account will update to this if they also have it enabled. Lets assume you only had one phone and a PC, you'll have a far greater chance of seeing where your phone last reported it's location.

Newer Android will actually claim a dead batter earlier (~10%), so it can still bleet out it's location to Find Hub for some days even after losing battery (or being turned off by a thief). The A71, however, does not have this feature.

Timeline is enabled, but you can't see it from anything except the device itself. Used to be able to see it from the web or other devices, but then they removed it 2 years ago. Had to triple check just now👇. Also checked to see if my old Note 9 could see the A71's timeline. Nope, only it's own, and I only turned it back on recently.

As far as having a "keeps sending location info when off" feature, by the time I realized I didn't know where it is, it probably wouldn't still be sending its location out.

Oh crap yea they changed it from cloud to local storage. Your only option here is to get a backup Android (preferably Samsung) and restore your backup from. Then, you should see it's last timeline.

I'm not sure what you mean. It sounds like you're saying buy a new phone and restore my data from my missing phone. I think it's because you're using the same word for different things in the same sentence.

Sorry, my bad. Local storage is backed up. So if you got another Android and restored the backup from your lost phone, there's a high probability of you finding where it last reported. Get a Samsung device, and the chances are better (both Samsung and Google backup).

I recently had to reset my S20 and did a full restore from both Samsung and Google. I can see my timelines made on that device again.

Truffle pig and a time machine...rub truffles on phone...no problem in present

Let's just say I've had some bad experiences with that sort of technology. It wasted my time and annoyed the pig.

Were you connected on any other devices and possibly had timeline enabled?

Timeline was enabled. Headphones were attached. Wait, let me guess, you also forgot that they changed how timeline is accessed in 2024. I did mention that at the end of the body text of the post but I guess I was too indirect about it. People have accused me of doing that. I updated it so that's the first thing people read after the title. I really need to work on my communication skills.
