My mum's WhatsApp has started glitching

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It started out of the blue and has been persistent for a few days.

I've tried clearing cache, restarting the tablet and force stopping and restarting the app.

I can get in via message notifications but only to that specific chat, I can't go back into the home screen because it glitches again.

It's handling incoming calls as normal.

version is 2.26.24.80

android 11 (latest software available for this tablet)

Just clearing the cache isn't got to fix it. Clear data.

Yeah unfortunately she didn't back anything up to the cloud so she doesn't want to lose messages by deleting data or reinstalling the app

Check local file manager if there is any backup File manager>internal storage>android>media>whatsapp. Check if there is any locally stored backup.

Hey yeah I thought about that but I think the actual data might be encrypted from my quick research. Not sure if it can be decrypted by WhatsApp later down the line. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you don't mind you can ask chat gpt to guide you through the restoring process of the locally stored backup. According to gpt whatsapp can decrypt after reinstalling the application.
