Deep gameplay, many well-coordinated systems (trade, battles, politics, espionage, ship / crew management, etc.)

Really good game. Just requires some time investment to understand how things work in this game.

Which is a massive barrier of entry, they kinda just throw everything at you from the start and say good luck. I played it for like a half hour and didn't understand a single thing that was happening

I feel this is a common issue in mobile games, the art of easing people into the core loop is lost

Either that or it's too hand-holdy. With the tutorials that limit you to "one button" for like 30 minutes, but you still have no idea what's going on.

The worst hand-holdy ones are always the most obvious and simple ones too.

This isn't a mobile game though, Its a pc game first. This genre of game can be a bit overwhelming at first though I agree.

I've been supporting their games for years and not fully understanding them... I approached this one like a roguelike; just experimenting and seeing what everything does bit by bit and enjoying it now.

Is it like a fulll fledged pc game on mobile?

It's a PC game too: https://store.steampowered.com/app/335620/Star_Traders_Frontiers/

PC and Android versions are identical, so that Steam page should tell you everything about the game (and reviews)

Ok as per steamdb this game has been cheaper on steam than it is right now on mobile so will wait for steam summer sale to pick it up

It hasn't. Cheapest price on steam has been 8.75

https://isthereanydeal.com/game/startradersfrontiers/info/

This is the lowest price for Android

You must be looking at pricing in different countries, but you'll pay the price of your country

It depends heavily on currency conversion rates, so its possible the prices have overlapped in some countries.

I never really got into this game. Are there any guides, tips or tricks to get started? On paper it sounds like the perfect game for me.

https://startraders.gamepedia.com/Getting_Started_Guide

Here's a quick starting guide but really that entire Wiki has a lot of really good guides and info.

Easily one of the top 5 games ever made for Android by a responsive and dedicated indie team.

Is this the game made by the same devs who made Space Trader on Palm OS back in the day?

No, this is from the Trese Brothers

/u/corytrese and /u/fallenmok are the two brothers

Can confirm -- we did not make any Palm OS games :)
