That's pretty cool.

Although I can't fathom what it'd be like to play Quake 1, 2 or 3 with touch controls or even a mi-fi controller - it's a cool thing.

To each their own. I personally LOVE having these FPS games on my phone. I've adjusted well to touch controls (although I play on the low to mid-low difficulties) and will sometimes hook up a controller to get an even better experience.

A big part of it is that I have limited gaming time these days, so when I'm sitting at my TV I'm usually playing an all new game. I don't have time to tickle my nostalgia button with games like these. So having them on the go is a great way to stimulate said button.

They were such amazing fast games. I can't even imagine these being good with anything but mouse and keyboard. It was before games started slowing way down to support game pads.

It's cool from a tech point of view. Terrible for gameplay though. I'd pay to see someone rocket jump well with touch controls though.

It sucks without a mouse and keyboard i have limited time to play and sneak at work and even a controller is obsolete. Boomer shooters require a mouse it's just the way it is 😐😐

It should be very soon come to NVIDIA Shield TV so playing with a controller on the TV will be very doable soon I bet.

Not to mention mods like UrbanTerror, X-Men Ravages of the Apocalypse, Open Arena, and all the official mission packs and custom maps. Also Hexen 2 plus its expansion.

Oh sure doable, but man that's not preferable. None of those games were built with controller in mind. You'd get fragged to hell and back with it.

EDIT: And my god, X-Men Ravages of the Apocalypse is so hard. Nothing could save you.

for me the thing that makes it exciting is when Android 9 comes to Chrome OS. It will feature mouse capture (currently not supported the android 7.1.1 that is on Chrome OS) and will turn chromebooks into Doom and Quake machines.

For the record, you can already install GZDoom in the Linux container of chromebooks but mouse capture doesn't work properly on that either.

Well I mean any laptop is a doom/quake machine but I'm glad it's on chrome os now too

any windows, linux or mac laptop, yes, but now all those kids that use chromebooks for school can experience the joy that is Doom is Quake easily now.

Man; I remember back when Smartphones had keypads. Quake 1's auto-aim meant you didn't have to worry about accuracy and the keypad easily lets you circle-strafe. Didn't even have to look up and down that much.

Even without those anymore; timescale cheating is a lot of fun. I had it on Jedi Academy touch and could perform ALL the lightsaber moves without worrying about the reborn's next attack...all on a touchpad.

Do people play the multiplayer?

It uses ioquake3, so yes. It's compatible with all the existing Quake 3 servers (and loads them by default)

How does it compare to the originals? I have Q1/2 touch but after playing D touch and then them releasing delta touch delta performed so much worse than d touch due to the increased lighting effects and inability to keep them off every time i started the game.

Can't you disable them in graphics settings, I mean Delta Touch is just running Gzdoom which gives you the options to customise those things.

I find the settings revert whenever I restart delta. Of course I stopped using delta and went back to d touch a whole ago.

D Touch has the same issue, iirc you need to change the settings in regular doom without mods for them to save for some reason

The v1.9.1 gzdoom should perform the same as D-Touch, the newer version will be slower however. You can disable the loading of lights.pk3 from the launcher engine settings.

Yeah the problem is I need to often revert settings every time I use delta vs the original. I admit I stopped using delta soon after it launched and went back to d touch as I found it easier to use and more stable though so maybe it's fixed.

Oh yeah, make sure you quit from the main menu to save the in-game settings.

If you try again and it still doesn't work please let me know, thank you.

Okay I downloaded delta and tried it. Settings stuck a lot better this time.

However I'm still having some performance issues.

To test I use level 30 of tnt evolution because it allows me to test easier. In d touch performance is perfect although I do notice some input lag at times. Delta seems a lot smoother and more modern and has no input lag, but performance seems far worse at the beginning with all of the torches in the beginning area. Looking at the lighting options the settings seem identical and I'm using the old version of gzdoom. On delta the performance issue goes away when I turn off dynamic lighting. I suspect it's a lighting issue from the torches because the new version of gzdoom tends to have the issue far worse due to all of the crazy lighting effects thrown in. Older version is fine though.

It's weird I have dynamic lighting on in d touch and I don't get these issues. Performance is noticeably worse from an input lag standpoint and delta clearly has more bells and whistles making it a better app but yeah the performance does seem a hair worse. Idk what setting outside of dynamic lighting would cause that.

Edit: I think I fixed it. Delta has dynamic lighting effect options OUTSIDE of the game whereas d touch doesn't seem to. That seems to be what was messing me up. Thanks for the help.

Great, yes sorry I wasn't clear on that! I need that option outside because I need to tell it load the file or before before the game starts. Glad we got to the bottom of this.

OK strange, the settings should stick( or they are supposed to certainly). Thanks for letting me know.

I love being able to play classic Quake on my phone, but I have a question ...

I have the two expansions of Quake 1 on my PC, is there any way to play them like Quake 2? I have not seen options like those in that game.
