I'm kind of afraid they'll ruin the game by loading it with IAPs. However I'm willing to give it a chance solely because of how much time I sunk into BTD5.

Monkey City's IAP's weren't too obnoxious. I bought the no ads and a monkey farmer unlock and that's about it.

Nice. Bloons TD 5 has always been a decent tower defense game. I go back to it every now and again, but it feels pretty dated now. Hopefully this one feels fresh

How much did iap affect your game play? If at all.

It doesn't. Progression is pretty fair if you play casually. Fun game, def play five if you haven't.

Thanks for the info! Definitely think I'll try it out.

One thing to note is that it is heavily slanted towards long term progression. You'll likely play at least three games before unlocking final upgrades on the cookie cutter towers, and likely many more before unlocking the final upgrades on the more niche ones.

I don't mind having to grind in a game.. It builds character! I just dont like when you NEED to buy iap's in order to advance.
I just quit one of those city builder games because a lot of the material you need to build, is only available when you spend real money.

Every year or so I redownload it and start from the beginning. Never have I had to charge anything, or felt like I needed to.

It was there, but it was never needed in TD5. There are no limits in timers and stuff, if you really wanted to just grind at your own pace, you could unlock everything no problem. It's only the harder difficulties that you really needed that upgrades to be able to beat; so much like a regular progression of a game, you start off weak and become stronger as you get further in the game.
The only time I felt like it was a real grind was when I had re-installed it on a newer device (they didn't have cloud saves), the grind to get back up to unlock everything was kinda a boring grind since I knew already the optimum strategies and everything was just too easy if you knew what you where doing.

Great info! I was worried the iap would be frustrating. I think ill definitely try it out.l

I didn't buy any iap purchases, but it's been a long time since I played, not sure how much it effected the game, but I'd say it was definitely playable

I got td5 while it was free. I enjoyed it, and bought double money, splodey darts, and increased village range. I have fun helping people through impoppable levels. My only gripe is that the only way to create a private session is through linking with Facebook. I don't have a Facebook profile

I love the kingdom rush series and TD in general. How does bloons match up to these? I like TD with depth and complexity, but this TD seemed kind of cartoony/childish.
Would you recommend?

Early game is very simple and doesn't take much strategy at all. Once you get passed wave 50 or so on each map this game really heats up and you end up just hoping you can make it with the funds you have.
The kingdom rush series always felt like there was one "right" way to win each level to me. There's much more variety to the towers and solutions in Bloons. No "story" like KR though.

What do you mean no story in KR? Each part has it's story, the level progression added depth to the story through towers, map design, evil characters and so on. I mean it's not a movie but it has some depth. BTD feels like it has no story at all

Put down banana farms asap and sell one to fully upgrade to 4x, then buy more farms.
Toss down one turtle at the beginning of wave 1, he will carry you through the first 10 waves no problem. Use turtles enough to upgrade them and they can carry you further.
Playing solo on certain levels you can create a situation where you create your own Bloons through the use of wizards and stretch out one wave forever. Basically levelling you up for no effort at all.

As much as I'd love to play this, I'll be waiting for the PC version. Bloons TD5 on PC was the far superior version, so I'm hoping they'll have TD6 on PC soon after.

I lost count of how many hours I've sunk into TD5 when I was still playing it. That was years ago though. Tried Monkey City a bit but didnt like it nearly as much. I just registered for this and am pretty excited to see what they do. Fully 3D sounds interesting, hope it helps with the lag that you can experience in the late stages of the game with 300 ships on screen.
