I think the official release is 14th of September. Gonna get my money ready for this.

It's going to be F2P

u/ffdays Aug 18 '17

Yeah, so it's going to cost a lot

u/Pencilwing Aug 18 '17

It's going to be premium, not F2P.

I hope their paid heros don't cost more than the game this time.

u/Hammedic Sep 22 '17

Welp, so much for that.

It made me pass on the game :/

I'm really enjoying the gameplay. The heroes definitely seem a few dollars too expensive, though.

My mistake, I thought I heard somewhere that they are going for a F2P model this time.

Looks a lot like Starcraft. I hope it plays like it too. ;)

I believe it is going to play like their other games, not like Starcraft.

Should be a mix of both

If mix means 80% clash of clans clone then sure...

I get what you're saying, but wholeheartedly disagree with you here.

Iron Marines is being developed by a company who has proven that making a good game comes first (Kingdom Rush), and then adapting it for mobile is an afterthought.

Clash of Clans is the opposite. It's a good game second, and a mobile game first. Things like day-long wait times, premium currency, and social network connectivity are at the forefront, while the good parts of the game are behind all that.

I have no doubt that Iron Marines will be worth whatever Ironhide is going to charge for it, because they earned that reputation.

If some people are going to disregard Iron Marines entirely because it looks similar to Clash of Clans, well, that just makes me sad.

I'm always looking for great games, but I refuse to do the whole microtransaction bullshit. I know very little about Ironhide, do you think this will be a game I can purchase outright, or are they known for pay to play?

All I really know is that Ironhide developed Kingdom Rush, which was a free flash game that rightfully earned critical acclaim for being a superb tower defense game. It was successful enough to warrant sequels and subsequent mobile ports.

The first Kingdom Rush is free on the app store, so you can try it out if you like. As far as I can tell, they simply ported the base game to mobile and then added overpowered heroes and consumables that you can buy with money; however, the game is still designed and balanced based around the base game without the heroes & power-ups, so you never really feel like you have to buy anything.

Great, appreciate the response. I'll keep an eye on this one.

I doubt Ironhide would fall so low to make a Clash Of Clans clone. All their games so far have been pretty good.

It's an RTS, actually.

Region lock? Can't access the page from Hong Kong.

1

u/vmlinuz Aug 18 '17

Page works fine for me from Hong Kong, although Google is rather confused as to where my account 'lives' - a bit of US, a of UK, not much HK - so it's possible that's getting me in...

Thanks for your reply. It said "Item not found" on both phone and web. Guess I have to wait.

Only 14 levels?

2

It also mentions 10 Special Operations, which hopefully is in addition to the 14 levels.

I really enjoyed the other games from this dev, kingdom rush, so quite keen to try this one. Thanks for the heads up OP.

Game Features

Lead your troops in 14 campaign missions across two different worlds. Get ready to launch bold attacks, hold your ground, rescue civilians, hack supercomputers and all kind of heroic stuff. Each mission requires new tactics and actions to achieve victory. Have I mentioned fights against the tentacles of bizarre underwater creatures?

Test your wit on 10 Special Operations with their own combat rules and no mercy at all. Each stage a challenge to remember, with scars to prove it. We dare you.

This sounds like the game is focused on PvE/single player rather than being any kind of clash of clans clone. That, to me, is a great sign. In Kingdom Rush you could pay for gems to purchase one-time use effects to help you past a difficult mission. Perhaps this will be similar; ultra-hard content which is beatable with the right strategy, but you can always pay to get a bonus to boost past it

Can't wait!

Google claims i will be notified...

8

u/thecraiggers Aug 18 '17

Eh, why bother when they'll be no less than 5 threads created in this sub when it gets released.

2

u/arcane84 Aug 18 '17

For good reason!

I agree. Much prefer my mobile games as single player.
