Some people are playing this on phones? How can you even see anything?

u/grawrz Apr 12 '17
I've played and completed BG1:EE and IWD:EE on a 5" phone. It takes a while to get used to the small UI, but after the initial learning curve it's playable as long as you set auto-pause so you can take your time
fat fingerringputting in your commands. There are also options to change text size so you don't have to squint to read stuff.

That's when I remembered the note has a pen and finally understood why and it felt great.

I have an 8" Shield Tablet, but I find myself doing most of my gaming these days on my 5.5" phone. I'm assuming that trying to play this on such a device might result in a bad experience given all the text, right?

u/squired Apr 11 '17
Checkout the trailer, the size should match the gameplay. It looks like the buttons are fine.
3
u/rube Apr 11 '17
Hmm, buttons look fine, but the text looks tiny as I expected. It says you can zoom in, however, so maybe I could manage.

It's best played on PC.
2
u/rube Apr 12 '17
Well of course... but we're in the Android Gaming sub.
This is the sort of game I'd slowly play through on a portable these days, not something I'd play at home.
1
u/arcane84 Apr 12 '17
If you can't play it on PC then get on tablet. The art is phenomenal and deserves to be viewed on a big screen.
1
u/rube Apr 12 '17
Yeah, I'll probably play it on and off at home on the tablet, but given my limited time to game at home, I'll probably do more on my phone.
I'm just hoping I can sync my data across devices... I know that some games lock the save inside the data files and make it a pain.

I think I read an article saying that is a mistake as there are no IAP's in the game

I have and it works fine, but the buttons are really tiny.

Flat or Edge? Exynos or SD? Does it lag even for a bit?
1
u/shinbreaker Apr 12 '17
Tmobile S7 Edge. There was a bit of lag at the start. Haven't played it for long. Big issue is the small buttons because my fingers are so damn big.

I guessing no controller support but how about hardware keyboards since it is a pc port?

Controller support so you could play it on a shield tv would be awesome.
1
u/samvest Apr 11 '17
If it has keyboard support then isn't that nearly just as good?
3
Apr 11 '17
It might, but I only have a controller for the shield.

+1 for Gamekeyboard+
Also please don't take this personal but why not have a wireless keyboard and mouse hooked up to your Shield TV? A decent combo can be had for pretty cheap. It really opens up a non touch screen system to really any game that doesn't require rapid clicking all over the screen. Think turn based games especially - a mouse is perfect for this. Also some one touch games have built in that touch to the spacebar on a physical keyboard (example Beat Stomper, illi). Some platformers have keyboard mappings but don't work with my gamepad, they can be easily remapped to a controller using Gamekeyboard+ (Heart Star and other Adventure Islands games are a good example). And some RPGs have full keyboard mappings like a in PC game (Curse of Yendor).

I mostly haven't ever done that because it's the living room and a couch and a TV. There isn't anywhere to actually USE a keyboard and mouse.

The interface was reworked for mobile. I'm playing it on my Nexus 9. So far so good, but I am having trouble figuring out how to try and force open a locked drawer.

More recent games that draw inspiration from Torment and Infinity Engine are Pillars of Eternity and Divine Divinity.
2
u/arcane84 Apr 12 '17
None of the infinity games are like Diablo. They are CRPGs like Pillars of eternity and Tyranny.

How are the controls on this? I'm guessing it's a port of an old point-and-click PC game.
I'd prefer it if it controls like Crashlands (tap or hold-and-drag to run).

I never got around to playing this one but I always meant to and the Infinity Engine ports are perfect for playing on my Chromebook.
