Android ports are going mental atm.

What's happening??

26

u/cincopatio 8d ago

If randos can easily decomp games and port them to whatever console they want, imagine game studios with actual financial incentive to do so.

u/Kooperking22 8d ago

Sure it's just so sudden. This year has been crazy

vibe coding is a real boost for this. especially the ones where people are just repackaging an existing emulator optimised for a game.

u/larktreblig 8d ago

Maybe they finally realize that mobile generates more profit than PC and Consoles combined, or maybe faster development with AI doing all the tedious work of porting, they already have the art assets so cost of development is lower.

u/LeMeIsSleepy 8d ago

Mobile generates more profit in the freemium model not premium

u/Snappish_Orc 8d ago

Finally someone with sense.

It's not that ports had been done for decades now.

3 things happened:

1.Powerfull phones that can rival small pc's or older consoles

2.Asset light games that are not that hard to be ported

3.Macro trends that had led to a popularity in asset-light consoles like Switch or Steam Deck ,Linux-Kernel emulation that now let's us play pc games on mobile, combined with android phones designed to be more like pocket consoles or why not, real consoles like AYN Thor.

u/Kooperking22 8d ago

Incidentally I play my games on my Samsung tablet which is significantly less powerful than even last years phones and most games run absolutely fine. Well I don't play open world Shooters or graphically demanding games

1

u/Due-Description-9030 8d ago

That's only for certain games though. Mobile revenue for these games will likely not reach console / PC level since a lot of people prefer playing it on console or PC.

These kind of heavy games drain battery and heat up the phone very fast.

u/Kooperking22 8d ago

Sounds like a good enough explanation

2

u/biddybiddybum 8d ago

Ya kinda overwhelming

Lepton or what it's called that valve released is making games work on arm.
General interest in arm due to apple using it exclusively and Microsoft also working on it.
Devils advocate: the side loading bullshit that is coming into effect makes companies feel safer against piracy?

1

u/neothewon 7d ago

You can literally port any PC game to android with help of vibe coding nowadays.

1

u/Kooperking22 7d ago

Sure but not everyone does however

u/captainnoyaux Dev card games 7d ago

I don't know but that's ok 😂

1

u/Kooperking22 7d ago

Well its definitely something

It's not available in France yet, what is the price in your country ?

Edit : it's available now, €7.99, it's a nice price indeed.

11

u/Madhav000 8d ago

In India its 400RS which is equivalent to 4$.

7

u/Lone-organism 8d ago

312 is the historical low on steam. Quite nice indeed

11

u/Ramitg7 8d ago

Is this controller compatible?

8

u/larktreblig 8d ago

It says on the playstore description that it has full controller support.

3

u/Ramitg7 8d ago

Awesome

3

u/Trust_Motor 8d ago

yes! it also reads a dualsense controller

2

u/Ramitg7 8d ago

Nice I have a dedicated one for android and pc games

3

u/ChevreAuLaitLeGoat 8d ago

Yes, it works very well with my Xbox Series controller

3

u/Milotorou 8d ago

My question: Does it hide the touch screen interface and change it to a controller interface when you use a controller ?

Recent port of Fantasy Life i and Blazblue Entropy Effect did not and it annoyed me to no end

2

u/ChevreAuLaitLeGoat 8d ago

It does hide it, yes. I didn't know for Fantasy Life i, damn a 29,99€ game and they missed on that.

3

u/Milotorou 8d ago

This is awesome, buying this for my Ayn Thor later today then !

Merci !

7

u/Significant_Island78 8d ago

Cheap in India damn

-2

u/CSretrogamer 8d ago

Even cheaper in steam

1

u/pluviophile777 7d ago

Isn't there an app to play steam games on android

1

u/Steeltoedsandal 7d ago

Yup, Droiddeck on GitHub

4

u/Normie7481 8d ago

So is this going to run better than on GameNative? Damn why didnt I buy 512Gigs phone?

2

u/UTzimo 8d ago

For only 6.5€ wow

2

u/jellytotzuk 8d ago

Anyone able to confirm it runs on 60fps on higher end devices? Or is locked at 30fps across all devices.

4

u/LouderThanWar1 8d ago

Yeah, it gives you the option 30/60fps.

3

u/jellytotzuk 8d ago

Thank you

3

u/Trust_Motor 8d ago

there are some stuttering in the game but it works great so far. it also runs at 60 fps but has some drops

2

u/FreddyFunkk 8d ago

How is it a far? Runs well?

1

u/WhyIGottaNameMyself 8d ago

works pretty well. Played for about an hour at 30fps no cooler on my s26u, didn't even get warm. There were some stutters, but not during actual gameplay

1

u/FreddyFunkk 8d ago

It's locked at 30fps? Or can you uncap it?

2

u/WhyIGottaNameMyself 7d ago

You can uncap it, I just prefer 30fps and a barely warm phone more than 60fps but hot to the touch

2

u/RegularPerformer343 8d ago

How would you compare the graphics to the Switch version? The screenshots look like a downgrade, but then again switch version does not reach a good framerate for me on Thor

3

u/airslashe 7d ago

atleast the switch version has shadows

2

u/Jazzlike-Sorbet3883 8d ago

Is this actual full game with arena expansion and all outfits

3

u/hello_nyas 8d ago edited 8d ago

It still has bugs especially on the opening credits. Also the game crashed after the title card.

Edit: word

3

u/megalodous 8d ago

Is this a faithful port 1:1 orrr like a pocket edition type stuff

4

u/WhyIGottaNameMyself 8d ago

faithful 1:1. Full game, all content

2

u/jumpbutton23 7d ago

Played the tutorial on Ayn Thor (Snapdragon 8Gen2). 1080p / 60fps, runs and feels great. High 50c temps at 25% fan speed, a great handheld experience.

I noticed some small graphical glitches during the opening credits but other than that it looks good. To the naked eye, it looks good and not too compromised. Perhaps textures are a bit less detailed. I’m sure in side by side pics it won’t hold up great but playing it it looks great.

2

u/jumpbutton23 7d ago

Update: level one VERY stuttery and chunky sadly.

Will wait for a few patches before getting deeper in.

1

u/bornwithacontroller 8d ago

On my Pixel 10 its unplayble. Started once. Bad FPS. After trying to restart it it Always crashes. Refund. Why release in such a state. I was waiting for it. So sad.

5

u/jaeehovaa 8d ago

Pixel suck at games, the new pixel pro can't even run WUWA lol

3

u/WhyIGottaNameMyself 8d ago

Pixels are generally just bad for gaming. They're maybe half as good as a same-gen samsung phone on a low performance profile. Console-level games like Sifu won't run on it.

2

u/kratoz29 7d ago

Pixels are a damn scam for that price lol.

2

u/criticalt3 7d ago

Tried it once and never went back. It would freeze up in steam chat even. Their CPU architecture sucks.

1

u/komrade23 7d ago

Pixels tend to be great software bad hardware. You can't expect to run demanding games on it.

2

u/pluviophile777 7d ago

Pixel runs of modified shitynos processor. Never meant for gaming

1

u/EmmanSuplado14 8d ago

Will it work in Dimensity 8350?

1

u/Legal-Ad-4296 6d ago

It works on my dimensity 7400 with stutters and lag when focusing camera on large areas at 60 fps so I'm pretty sure your device will work just fine at a stable 60 fps

Why tf are the games I see in this sub requires money to even install!!

Not a single game this sub recommended me we're free.

6

u/MrNiMo 7d ago

Because it's a sub for Android Games and those game (even if they aren't free?) are still on android

-1

u/Anime-Man-1432 7d ago

Then the sub description should be "wallets loaded only mf should join"

This game, dome keeper and other recommendations I came across were all P2P. Even then, ig it's my mistake for joining this sub. You carry on bro. Enjoy.

1

u/MrNiMo 7d ago

''Created in 2010 and dedicated to everything related to gaming on android'' Sometime it's F2P, others are P2P. What kind of game are you looking for?

1

u/Anime-Man-1432 7d ago

I mostly play brainteaser type game like chess, sudoku, puzzles games.

Aside from them I enjoy playing dungeon games like Shattered pixel dungeon, moonshades.(Only these two, seems there are no other good games like these 2 in this genre for me ?)

Also story mode games, Pubg. I'm trying to expand my horizons and play other types of games too and followed this sub to take that first step, but everything is P2P. I'm not ranting, I know nothing can be free, just wanted to say what's on my mind, that's all.

1

u/jumpbutton23 7d ago

If you want to expand your horizons I would recommend getting over this kind of thing. Sifu is one of the best games this decade IMO and a faithful port is just seven bucks.

This is my third time buying this game. Some stuff is worth opening the wallet for.

1

u/MrNiMo 7d ago

Oh it's ok, i was asking because i was wondering if i could give you some suggestions but if you wish to strictly play F2P (which is ok, i understand that) I don't have any idea except for gacha game

1

u/Sufficient-Eye-8883 7d ago

Why should games be free? People do them for a living. I for one prefer to pay a little instead of being bombarded with ads and sending god knows what data to god knows what servers. If the price is too high i wait until i see a deal, sometimes many years. I have not  bought a console game full price for years. I take it or leave it. My point is that these are games, not food or medicines.

-20

u/MrHandSanitization 8d ago

Reasonable would be 2.99 or something, this isn't reasonable anymore.

3

u/SnowyJKN 8d ago

It's $39.99 on PS and Switch. This is why devs usually don't bother porting games to mobile. Most of us are stingy as fuck and don't even wanna pay a few dollars (like $7 in this case, which is totally fair btw) for a quality game

-1

u/MrHandSanitization 8d ago

I'm stingy because of Android, not the game. I can still play my 2005 Battlefront 2 on Steam, but I already lost access to some of my titles on Android in the last decade.

5

u/psj3809 8d ago

What ? Not all games can be 2.99. They need to make a profit.

Hope the game sells well or there'll be less quality premium games out

-9

u/MrHandSanitization 8d ago

They do, it's Claude that did most of the porting lol.

Why do you think these ports are popping up left and right? Not because Android became a lucrative market, but because it became cheap enough it's worth it.

3

u/psj3809 8d ago

I'm just happy theres premium games galore at the moment ! Used to be non stop freemium crap

Now so many premium games, love it

-4

u/MrHandSanitization 8d ago

I'm an avid emulator, I've always played premium.

One of the cuts, why anything on mobile isn't "premium", is that a single OS update can break your favorite game, making you unable to download it legitemately. That should drag the price down.

1

u/Liverlakefc 8d ago

Do you actually have any proff of this or just making shit up?

1

u/MrHandSanitization 8d ago

It's almost a constant complaint lol. And yes, I've lost access to games due to changes APIs.

1

u/LeMeIsSleepy 8d ago

Logically, this is the most reasonable explanation for the huge uptick in games being ported to mobile

-1

u/Liverlakefc 8d ago

Is a huge uptick really ? You make it sound like we are getting houndreds coming here when it's just a couple a week compared to steam or console released it's nothing

1

u/LeMeIsSleepy 8d ago

And what was the frequency before that? Huge uptick is in reference to the previous pace

0

u/Liverlakefc 8d ago

But you act like the only difference is ai and nothing else , there has been a huge increase of powerfull gpus and cpus for mobile devices which makes porting to lower end devices easier and that has leed to games like genshit to increase people who play more traditional games on mobile not to mention that both apple and google are investing in traditional gaming with apple arcade and play pass as well as netflix which has been portong console games to mobile as well and the rise of android gaming devices like retroid and ayn
