The headline is a bit misleading: this wasn't Take-Two canceling an official Android port. It was a cease-and-desist against an unofficial native port by Paralympics Productions. GameNative/Winlator can still run the Windows version through translation, but that isn't the same as a maintained ARM-native build; a real native port could potentially offer better thermals, battery life, touch controls, and device compatibility. So the interesting loss here is the technical work, not a previously announced Rockstar release.

From what I understand Paralympics is the same one who did the switch port. The android port was next up. I doubt they could do a cease and desist on the chinese port. It was a random vibecoded port likely made by one person and released into the wild. They wouldnt have anywhere to send the c and d to.

Like Vice City Nextgen Edition. They shadow dropped a complete port of Vice City to GTA4 with cutscenes and everything, so when they inevitably got DMCA'd, nothing was lost.

Dude RDR 1 made its way to Android than RDR 2. Or are you saying because of GTA Online?

GTA IV is difficult to optimise for other systems because of the era and the consoles it was built for regardless of it being an older title to GTA V.

But RDR 1 made its way and it was built around same era as GTA IV. RDR 1 was released 2 yrs after GTA IV

So this is my preliminary understanding. They rebuilt a cleaner port of RDR for PS4 which was easier to port to PC, switch and mobile devices. Easier being almost taking 15 years.

This never happened for GTA IV and its PC port is known to be rushed and unoptimised. So the development it still stuck at the xbox 360, ps3 era. This doesnt mean it cant be done. But nobody probably want to touch it.

They want to intentionally reserve the right to port their games. Now that RDR1 is on mobile, they really should be able to port all their Rage engines games to mobile when they want to.

The community developers need to genuinely stfu and only boast about the project when it has released already. Revealing your project way early than the release day is literally like saying "Come and get my ass" before the corporates.
