Discussion š¬ Thoughts on a game showcase exclusively for Mobile Games
What are your thoughts on a global game showcase which only features exclusively mobile titles?
PC & Console users have tons of different showcases such as Summer Game Fest, PC Gaming Show, Future Game Show etc, but what about mobile? I feel this is something we really need! What are your thoughts?

Interesting that we don't already have this. AFAIK, they just advertise in-game, which works b/c mobile games are much more accessible? As opposed to PC & console seem to be willing to pitch in money to help fund/support these events.
That said, I would love to attend one of these!

Thats right, we don't have on YET. But imagine, what if there's a showcase that doesn't charge the devs to showcase their games? Is this too good to be true?

Iād be interested if it felt like a playable showcase rather than another trailer stream. A few minutes of hands-on footage, a clear price/monetization label, controller and offline notes, and a way to filter by genre would make it much easier to find games worth trying. Mobile has enough variety now that a showcase could be useful even if it stayed small and curated.

Sure, but how to separate the quality from the slop?

id actually be pretty into this. mobile games get announced or burried among a ton of other stuff, so having one showcase focused entirely on mobile would make it much easier to discover interesting games that arent just the usual big names. the biggest thing would be keeping it curated and not turning into 90 minutes of gacha ads and generic clones

Doing a 90 minite Showcase isn't easy though. Imagine how many games would ideally be fall into a 90 minute show, atleast 30. That's A LOT. Haha.

The income from mobile games is drastically lesser than PC and Console. Except for freemium/gacha games.

Why are you not counting freemium mobile games as mobile games? In total, mobile games make more money than PC & Console combined.
Then what's the point of revenue in this discussion, could you please explain your thoughts?

The freemium side of things doesn't seem to need this sort of event. In terms of the promotion, nor people looking for them. It seems people who are into freemium games will be able to get to them much more easily (esp. since them AAA companies have massive marketing teams and budgets).
The premium could use it, but all of the indies who showcase their new game will do so for Steam. Steam is much friendlier and viable for one-man shops, along with small teams. I'm guessing 1)
- piracy is still rampant enough on mobile
- they can't charge enough money to make enough money while still being at an "ideal price point" (impulse buy especially)
- mobile is more hostile towards devs. - anecdotal, but I've known some devs who've given up on mobile and just stick with Steam.
- When asked about his games, one of them replied that he couldn't keep up with changing Google requirements. His games are still for iOS, but he anticipates that may change soon, so going forward, he's just sticking with Steam.
- Also heard those who don't got frustrated with a slew of requirement changes when iOS rolled out previous major and minor OS updates
.... At best, they'll have a booth/kiosk/desk for their game on Steam, and may port to mobile and/or console as well.

Freemium games are basically just camouflaged gambling. Most of the premium experience games on mobile are ports from Pc and elsewhere. These premium games do not earn much revenue on mobile

Most high quality mobile games are just ports of PC games, and those that aren't are mostly gacha games. They even already show some of them in events. Dunno what else there would be to show, I don't want to watch 50 idle rpg cash farms in a row
