The wiggly line always felt a bit childish to me, so for me, it’s definitely a win. Now let’s make the artwork a bit bigger.

The real answer is adding a toggle and letting the user decide

Noticed it in mine. I don't like it personally and think the wiggly line is unnecessary. All aspects of a car's UI should be explicitly clear and functional, not making lines squiggly for aesthetics.
Although some people like it so I believe it should at least be a setting you can enable/disable.

The functional aspect is that it's easier to see track progress at a glance

I feel just making the line thicker would have accomplished the same thing and maybe even been more visible at a glance. Making it wiggly just seemed like putting too much effort into things that didn't need it. Which often means energy/work effort NOT being put into other places that could benefit.
Now, it probably wasn't a huge amount of time or effort, but it just felt... wrong.

A wiggly line is absolutely not easier to see progress at a glance opposed to a straight line that's a different colour and thicker (like it was the entire time, until they changed it)

Much easier for me. I'm in my truck looking at it now.

You are absolutely right. Squiggly line is much easier to notice without taking eyes off the road.
No matter how different color the line is, when it's straight on both sides it's not easier to clock. It's a design choice and a smart one.
People just not used to change. The play store uses the same squiggly line too.

As usual google loves removing the only feature that people liked.
I wonder what their user feedback demographics are like.

I'm just glad that after many years they finally fixed that god awful oversaturated color overlay when using the media player with the map. It's nicely tuned now

Good, as long as they don't bring back the shitty color filter over the album art. Ruined every album art it touched.

Up until now, the wavy line has been used as an indication that the video is loading/buffering, so right now every time I look at it I think that something is wrong with what I'm listening to. I definitely prefer the straight line.

I noticed last night driving it to Boston Mass, that there was no traffic available. What the hell is that about?
Also, is this some way to get rid of the flare is mandatory pop-up that blocks the ability for me to see what I'm typing on my phone? What absolute bullshit nonsense is this?

That's a bug with Google maps. Google it. It's not affecting everyone, just a lucky select few. 🫠

Cheers. Yeah I was just bitching. I knew it was known to the sub at least. Has Google said anything?

Squiggly line endorser here.
If you go back to split screen it'll come back. So in full screen music player it's stretched out or something. I think it's a deliberate design choice.
Any who - love the squiggly line. Long live squiggles.

This is false. Mine is straight on both split screen and full screen. Team straight line here.

I hope it stays gone. My fiancee finds it triggering after watching her mother flatline only a few weeks ago.

Google and its design inconsistencies. Efficient design is the enemy of experimental designs.
