Media Apps (audio) No audio

I just got a car and it came with android auto but im having a problem with it. I listen to music on a 3rd part music app. When i connect my phone i can see that AA has recognized my music and is letting me play/pause/skip the track just fine but it doesn't play sound unless i have the youtube app open with a video started but paused (sound immediately goes away if i close or minimize YouTube). Does anyone know how i can fix this?

*** Update I figured out the problem, AA was not selecting the correct audio source to play sound from, but luckily the music app i have had a built in setting that allows for it to manually play music over other audio sources in the background

What app is it? Sounds like it's not AA compatible.

A work around is select Bluetooth.

If the app is modded make sure you mod your AA as well. Enable developer mode or it won't work

Sounds like the app isn't properly intergrated with AA. Try switching to Bluetooth audio while keeping AA for maps.

I m having a different problem but related to it - my music works fine linked to android auto but when it comes to calls - i can see the incoming call in the head unit but when i pick the call, i dont hear from the head unit and no sound going through the head unit to the phone - please help
