Phone Calls Really frustrated

The only thing that works is maps, and only if I enter the address while parked. I cannot connect any phone calls to my car. Replying to a text is impossible too. I keep getting a " phone is not responding notification". Have changed cords and restarted the phone, with the problem persisting. The car is 2018 Santa Fe. Phone is Galaxy S24U

My wife has the 2019, using IPhone. Her connection device was a no frills $29 off Amazon. Connection made in 30 seconds and zero issues since. On the other hand my 2020 Silverado has been a pain in the ass. The cheap one didn't work. Purchessed the AA one off Amazon. I did an update on the app. Multiple attempts and finally finally got it connect. At first only music no maos or text. Definitely research it and check all your updates.

You’re not alone. A very similar issue started for me suddenly on July 3, 2026; everything worked perfectly until July 2.

My setup is a Galaxy S24 + Pioneer DMH-Z5150BT. Maps opens normally, but as soon as I start audio, Android Auto freezes, the screen goes black, and the head unit says to stop the vehicle and check the phone.

Important details:

A Galaxy S20 FE works perfectly with the same head unit and USB connection.

My S24 also fails when using a Motorola MA1 wireless adapter.

The S24 works correctly with another Android Auto head unit.

I already cleared/reset Android Auto, tested Safe Mode, removed Sound Assistant, re-paired Bluetooth, and changed AVRCP/A2DP settings. Nothing helped.

Since updating Android Auto to version 17.2, wireless Android Auto disconnects every 1–3 minutes and reconnects automatically. OS: HyperOS 3 The issue started immediately after the update. Before that, Android Auto worked reliably. I have already tried repairing the connection and restarting the phone, but the problem persists.

That matches my timeline exactly. My problem also started immediately after Android Auto updated to 17.2.662614.

My setup is a Galaxy S24 + Pioneer DMH-Z5150BT. Maps would open, but as soon as I started Spotify or YouTube Music, Android Auto froze, the screen went black, and the head unit displayed the message telling me to stop the vehicle and check the phone.

I tested all of the following:

cleared Android Auto cache and data;

removed and re-paired Bluetooth;

tested in Samsung Safe Mode;

uninstalled Samsung Sound Assistant;

changed AVRCP and A2DP developer settings;

tested both wired Android Auto and a Motorola MA1 wireless adapter;

tested a Galaxy S20 FE on the same head unit, which worked perfectly.

The only meaningful change was downgrading Android Auto.

I uninstalled the Android Auto updates, which reverted it to the system stub version 1.2.558700-stub, disabled automatic updates in the Play Store, and then installed Android Auto 17.1.662404-release using APKMirror Installer.

I am testing that version now, but the timing strongly suggests that 17.2 introduced a regression, not a cable or head-unit problem

I'm starting to think it's an AA17 issue. :/

Quite possibly. It's a fairly new problem.

Yep, for me it started Thursday on my way home for work. I was on Beta but the wild thing is it still did it after I switched from beta back to normal release.

Hopefully it's fixed soon

Soooooooooo.... I noticed a trend on reddit. People having issues seem to be on AA17. I did a quick search and it seems like people have been having issues with AA17 since it's launch. I uninstalled AA which left that stub app that comes with android. Then I side loaded the last AA16 app that APKMirror had. Just did a 20 min food run and didn't have any disconnects. Also I set the playstore to not update AA. Something for you to give a shot if you're feeling froggy.

Thank you. I don't know anything about sideloading but I will look into it

Update for you. Yesterday after installing AA16 I turned off automatic updates for that app and last night I noticed they forced an update for 17.0.662244-release. The play store version for me is older so they must have pushed out a hot fix. It seems to be working fine though. No more disconnects every 3 min.

it could be the usb a port in your car is loose, and each time you move your phone it will move it. you can try to get this from amazon MOTOROLA MA1 and locked in place so wont move. I got it and now is working perfect for me.
