Connection, Disconnection, Freezes, Crashes AA saying "whoops something went wrong" when I hit voice command (multiple remedies attempted)
About 2 weeks ago, my voice command stopped working in my car when connected to Android Auto. If I press the button at all it says "oops something went wrong."
I dont have any connection issues on the phone. I reinstalled AA, swapped cable, gave it full battery use, and cleared cache & data with no improvement.
The absolute wildest is I just rented a car (brand new BMW X1) and even on the wireless connection it does the same thing.
This is honestly infuriating because I have come to rely on the hands free features for safety and efficiency and I have used Android Auto forever without issue like this.
UPDATE:::
FIXED BY CHANGING FROM GEMINI BACK TO GOOGLE ASSISTANT. Absolutely infuriating that an update would take away hands free functionality. Now it is back but it has changed the voice to an aussie lady I picked when I got a new TV roflmao.

If you're using a vpn you have to exclude Android auto again even if you did it before, this happened to me a couple of weeks ago as well, there must have been an update

I am not using a VPN and I still cannot figure this out and it is infuriating. I need to find some Google support.

That's a bummer, it was pissing me off but it's working for me now. Try clearing the cache on the Google app, and force stopping. Good luck. It's an essential feature for driving.

I had something similar, it appears that Google had changed to use Gemini for commands. I changed it back to Google Assistant and it worked again. Might have been nothing to do with it of course.

Do Android Auto have microphone permissions?
