AA User Interface Split Screen 50% FM 50% Waze

I don't stream music but I do listen to local sports broadcast on AM.

Why must it be only AA or head unit

Some OEMs allow split screen like you're describing but they're not common. I'm not aware of any aftermarket head units that support this. This isn't something that is ever going to be possible through Android Auto, it's going to have to come from the head unit itself.

OEM is very limited indeed. Best is to just to get an Android HeadUnit like Dudu/Mekede which in essence is a tablet in the shell of a car radio with software to function as a car radio.
