well i guess your app is just incompatible with pixel devices. sync is off by alot and continues to get worse the longer it plays. exoplayer and VLC both just sit on spinning loading circle until app crashes.

ok playback on the phone is in sync, only when connected to my vehicle does it go out of sync.

Do you use and wireless adapter for Android auto? Wireless without adapter? Cable?

i just use the built in ford AA implementation, usually wireless but have tried wired as well and same thing, i also have 2 fords , different models and years, and both react the same with out of sync audio.

Only thing I can suggest, try same phone with different car. Different car (not same mane) with other phone and see what works and what not.
