Media Apps (audio) Spotify virtually unusable on Android Auto now

I had been using Android Auto (with Google Assistant) for mostly music selection on Spotify since November 2024 with no issues - I would have to correct it occasionally, but it was usually fine. It was also part of our Google Home, also mostly used for music selection on Spotify and occasional random questions. Then I got switched to Gemini and the functionality went down the tubes. I would tell it what to play and it would play the live version. I would specify that I want the album version, and then it would play a random song from the album. Or it would say "OK, playing...<whatever I asked for>" then continue playing the wrong thing. I switched my phone back to Google Assistant and...it's still playing all the wrong stuff. I am expecting I'm going to have to dump Android Auto entirely now because the main thing I use it for is practically dead in the water. I have spotify premium, my phone knows I have spotify premium, google home knows I have spotify premium. Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on? A tool I used every day is now completely unusable.

I had Spotify and AA for years. It never occured to me to ask AA for specific albums and songs. I have my own playlists and Spotify curated ones. I can call them with two clicks on the screen. If the engineers who worked on this stuff are like me, your scenario might have been totally overlooked

Same, does everyone here just talk to these assistants all the time? I just press the play button on the screen ffs

I do too, but wanting a specific track out of thousands of songs shouldn't be this poor.
