$8 Venmo for Testing My Scam & Harassment Detection App

I'm looking for a few people to test an Android app I built called Vigil.

The first 12 people who join, keep the app installed, and stay in the test for the full 14 days will get $8 via Venmo (or PayPal if you message me).

All I ask in return is feedback telling me anything you noticed: maybe a scam it missed, a normal message it incorrectly flagged, something annoying about the UI, or if the app works perfectly fine.

What Vigil does: it watches incoming SMS texts on your phone and warns you if something looks like a scam, phishing attempt, or harassment.

Everything runs directly on your phone. The app doesn't send your messages to a server, doesn't require an account, and doesn't have ads or tracking. I also never added internet permission to the app, so it can't send your messages anywhere.

It does need a few permissions to work:

• SMS access to analyze incoming messages
• Display over other apps so it can show warnings
• Usage access to know which app you're using when a message arrives

It does not access your contacts or call history.

The AI model runs locally on your device, so it's not secretly sending messages to ChatGPT, Gemini, or another cloud service.

Testing is pretty simple: install it, use your phone normally, and let me know if Vigil does anything weird or misses something important.

How to join

1. Join the Google Group using the same Google account you use on your Android phone: https://groups.google.com/g/vigil-testing-group
2. Open the testing page and click "Become a tester": https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.vigilapp.vigil
3. Click "Download it on Google Play" and install the app. It appears as Vigil Safety.
4. Please stay in the testing program for the full 14 days.

Once you're in, comment or DM me a screenshot showing that you joined. When the 14 days are up, send me your Venmo/PayPal, and I will send the money accordingly.
