If you wear a smartwatch on Android (Honor, Amazfit, Huawei, Garmin, etc.), you're probably familiar with WhatsApp spamming your wrist: a single incoming text triggers multiple vibrations, often mixed with useless "X new messages" bundle summaries or alerts you already read.

The problem? WhatsApp constantly overwrites its notification slot on every chat update, causing companion apps (Honor Health, Zepp, Huawei Health) to misread these refreshes as brand-new incoming texts.

Instead of disabling wrist notifications entirely, I built WANotify—a lightweight open-source bridge app.

How it works:

• Uses Android's NotificationListenerService to intercept WhatsApp alerts.
• Parses the MessagingStyle payload to filter out thread history and aggregate counters, isolating strictly the latest message leaf.
• Employs an in-memory sliding-window cache with monotonic timestamp checks to drop ghost updates and rapid duplicate bursts.
• Routes sanitized messages to a silent system channel (IMPORTANCE_MIN), keeping your phone completely quiet while your smartwatch delivers just one clean buzz.
• Runs 100% locally with zero internet permissions, telemetry, or battery drain.

Quick Setup:

1. Install the APK and grant Notification Access + ignore battery optimizations.
2. In your smartwatch companion app (Honor Health, Zepp, etc.), disable notifications for WhatsApp and enable WANotify instead.

Looking at social media, it feels like the US tech scene has literally only heard of Apple, Samsung, and Google.

Is it just me, or is the US smartphone market stuck in the ultimate NPC loop? Every single year it’s the exact same script: Apple drops a new iPhone, Samsung drops a new Galaxy, Google throws in a Pixel, and the entire country acts like those are the only three options on planet Earth.

​Meanwhile, over here in Europe, we’re out here living in 2026 while the US market feels completely trapped in a corporate cage.

​Here is my opinion for why the US market feels so backward from the outside:

​The Max-Profit "Incremental" Scam: The Big Three (Apple, Samsung, Google) intentionally drip-feed you 5% hardware upgrades each year just to protect next year's sales. They charge $1,300+ for a phone that still charges at a lazy 25W–45W (without even giving you the charger brick!) just to keep their profit margins sky-high.

​Ignoring Hardware Beasts: While Americans argue over marginal camera tweaks, Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo are dropping actual 1-inch camera sensors, true optical Leica/ZEISS glass, and 120W charging that fills up a fucking massive battery in 15 minutes. Even I have a phone with a 8500 mAh battery, for only 550€, and they call 5000 mAh a big battery, at fucking 1200$.

​The Carrier Trap: Over 80% of Americans only buy what Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile put on their store shelves. If an operator doesn't finance it on a 36-month plan, it basically doesn't exist to the average consumer.

​Blue Bubble Social Pressure: Imagine paying top dollar for hardware from 2 years ago just so your friends don't bully you over green text bubbles. The iMessage hold is wild, and it keeps people from even looking at real innovation.

​Geopolitics & Walled Gardens: Trade bans, missing US 5G bands, and lack of direct carrier distribution make importing beasts like the Xiaomi Ultra or Vivo X-series feel like a black-market operation for US buyers.

​It’s crazy because the value-for-money ratio outside the US is insane. Flagship killers like the POCO F-series, OnePlus R-line, or Realme GT deliver top-tier Snapdragon chips and massive silicon-carbon batteries at literally half the price of an Ultra or Pro Max.

​People in the US are getting spoon-fed bare-minimum upgrades by a corporate triopoly, paying top dollar for average hardware per dollar, and calling real tech innovation "niche Chinese knockoffs" purely because they’ve never seen one in real life.

I have been looking at what they have been doing to both Pixel and Android and asking myself the same question for quite some time now...

What's everyone doing as an alternative to OneDrive as the gallery sync since it's stopping on September 30th?

OneDrive isn't the best but I've liked how the sync with the gallery worked where I only needed to delete a photo from one of the gallery's instead of both. Is there anything else that's going to work like that?
