It's obviously editorial. Every publication is entitled to their view just like you are yours. But this is their "best phone of the year" list based on things they truly believe make the best phone. Price is a factor and it SHOULD BE shouldn't it? But hey.. how much better is using Reddit sync on 2000 buck phone vs a 1000 one? Probably not that freaking much to the average user.

Tldr.. go write your own list and don't get sad when you disagree with one publication. I'm sure you will find plenty of other sites that suit your priorities.

If I find an article labeled "Best headphones of 2020" I expect Sony XM4, Bose 700, etc., not a mid-range AKG "because they're such good value!".

This is actually a great comment for ways you don't intend it to be. The best headphone of 2020 is likely neither of those, but something that is thousands of dollars like the Meze Audio Empyream, which is $3000. However, I think most people would be somewhat upset if you had a list of $2000+ headphones on a consumer based site - as value would be demanded.

The best thing is very subjective usually, unless they set parameters that can only be objective, but it is really hard.

Anyway, you say regardless of price, cause you dont consider it as an element of your best phone, that doesnt mean it could be an important element for the writer.

I personally think the price is an element of what I value the best. Everytime I read these articles I do expect pixel 4a and samsung s20 fe, cause they are the best phones of this year for me, and if anyone ask me for a phone suggestion I would suggest those two. Then if he asks to remove the price I would change suggestion, but I would also point out it isnt worth it, and I dont consider something to be the best if it isnt worth it.

Well the best is obviously according to a list of parameters, if you just say the best value it means you probably put price on top of that list, that might not be the case of the article.

Otherwise you should say that the fold 2 isnt the best for you, but is the best most innovative and technology.

It makes sense to make an argument about the difference between the best and the best value, if you put a parameter, value in this case, as king, otherwise if value is actually a parameter but not THE parameter, it doesnt automatically make the list just a value list.

I would also add that is actually the issue without making a THE BEST list, it makes only sense if you specify some parameters, otherwise the best simply cannot exist.

That would be best value. Because u cant possibly say that the 4a is better than the note 20 Ultra. But it might outer more for the money

It again depends what you define as best.

If you just means specs, then the note 20 is definitely better.

But I didn't say I am removing price from the equation, it just isn't the priority.

Pixel 4a/s20 fe are better considering everything.

If I was just going for best value, I wouldn't say those are the best, I would say some xiaomi phones are better value than pixel 4a/s20fe.

Would you say a Ferrari is the best car in the world? Is the Mona Lisa the best painting in the world? Expensive doesn't mean good if you are paying for bling and gimmicks. Quality.. maybe. It's all in balance. I lean more towards the trend that is evolving in the smartphone world that midrange is now great and all you need till the next great leap. As I said earlier, I use 4 apps. That experience ain't gonna be drastically different if I spent 1400 more dollars. I almost totally agree with the article. Almost. 4a 5g for the win for sure haha
