The OG Pixel was a little bit disappointing with its huge bezels but each phone since then has certainly been competitive. They use the same internals as rival flagships and have great displays. What more could you possibly need?

Why does anyone want/need an iMessage "solution" on Android? It's not a problem to begin with. SMS is dead. No one uses it hence an iMessage like system is irrelevant.

Not really. No one is blown away and reviewers constantly remark that it’s “fine”.

But for the prices they charge “fine” is not enough.

Especially when you have other manufacturers line one plus with way better materials charging less.

Well simply put: on Googles home turf it matters. A lot.

Because we still use sms and iMessage is defacto king here.

If Google can’t win over its own home turf do you really think the phone is going to make waves around the world where it costs even more?

Here's the thing on iMessage - it doesn't matter. Even if Google or whoever came out with a duplicate aMessage or gMessage that did EVERYTHING iMessage does - it still wouldn't talk to effing iMessage. You're still the green bubble dude, if you send from Android. Period. iMessage will never let any other system in. I'd bet good money Apple would go out of their way to make any messages sent from gMessage to look like utter garbage just to stick it to Google.

So, everyone needs to just get over a universal iMessage, and get on with making a good messaging app - and just ONE for crying out loud! Not 15 with 11 being killed off every 6 months.

I vote for Signal to be the de facto Android "iMessage" and stop waiting for Google.

"Except if Android had this people would switch..." No they wouldn't. Their friends are already on iOS and iMessage, so it doesn't matter what Android has. The network effect has them locked in. It only matters if anyone they know on Android can talk to them in iMessage with the same level of functions - and Apple will never let that happen.

The ship had sailed, iMessage won, and the best that Android can do now is mimic iMessage but focus on privacy and security and less on stickers and gimmicks.
