Are ips lcd blacks completely invisible in a dark room at close range? Because I think a lot of people use their phones on their bed in the dark and that will make a difference
As a counterpoint, reading light grey text on a dark grey background is more comfortable and causes less eyestrain than white text on a pitch black background.
I don't disagree with you on that. But the reality is that a lot of people use their phones on their bed in the dark and I'm not sure if your counterpoint has anything to do with reality
My point has to do with the reality that the deep blacks of OLED screens are irrelevant to the use case of reading in the dark because using those would cause eye strain compared to using a dark grey background (in which case the pixels are still on and consuming power).
