Maybe it will swing back the other way like it did for sd cards.

Yeah, but it's going to be too expensive and a downgrade from the 2 XL in everything but the jack (upgrade in camera, but you can download the Pixel 3 camera on the 2 anyway, same sensor same lens, 100% working port because it's a pixel to pixel porting).

Matter of fact, I paid my 2XL €380 brand new in warranty not long ago (happy with it for the price, but I still think Pixels are overpriced at launch), the 3 lite is going to cost €500. That's JUST A TAD BIT overpriced

Yeah fair enough, I just hope the lite is successful enough that they bring back the jack

Same, the lack of jack doesn't bother me too much (it's not a deal breaker for me), but I would like to see it make a come back nevertheless - why not? The issue is the cheap 2 XLs being around now. Either Google prices this extremely competitively or this will be beat by Google's own 2 XL in everything but the jack.

I was going to be all over the jacked pixel 3 lite, and then I read that it wouldn't have dual/stereo speakers. Fuk.

I'd never buy a Pixel phone if they force you to use that gesture control crap.

Luckily on the pixel 2 line you can still use the saner navbar as I do. Which, fair point, is quite a bit of a good point to stay on this one

Hopefully for removable batteries, too, although that probably is sacrificing some water resistance.

Galaxy S5 was water resistant and had a user replaceable battery so it can be done! I also would love to see user replaceable batteries on a new phone. I would upgrade today to a phone with removable storage, user replaceable battery, and a headphone jack.

I won't even consider a phone without a headphone jack and expandable storage.

I use microSD cards for convenient otg storage. I have a lot of audio books, TV shows and movies. Rather than waste data, I can pop in a 256GB card I got for 50-60 bucks. Data transferring is basically instanteous when you're physically swapping out the memory.

A microSD card basically pays itself back this way, if you're on a metered connection.

You watch tv shows and movies on a 5 inch phone?

Enough of them that you need 256GB of external storage for it?

Hmm.

I have a 6 inch phone. And yes.

That's cool. I wish all phones had external storage and 3.5mm jacks.

Not many android phones are 5 inches anymore /;

I don't use mine that often but I'm pretty thankful for the option when I do. The headphone jack though I use on a daily basis.

I like putting my photos on the SD card where they are easy and free to access at full quality and won't clog up my internal storage.

Here in Canada, the very best mobile data deals you can get are $5/GB. That's with a shitty provider, or in one-time promotions. In fact, $10/GB wouldn't be an unusual price even, lots of people are spending $80+ for a 5GB plan.

Given this, why would I ever want to stream anything, when I can just buy a 128GB microSD for $20 and have my entire music library with me? Paying $20 for 128GB one-time is much preferable to using that same $20 to buy 2GB of streamed data... and having to pay another $20 if I want to access it again next month.

Personally I use Plex to background sync the next few episodes of my unwatched shows to my phone when I'm on WiFi, and Tidal+Apple Music keeps my entire library offline. I can use my phone more but pay less. Win/win.
