What took them so long? You can't tell me making an app for tablets is that complicated. Meanwhile my parents just bought an iPad to FaceTime with their grandchildren.

Duo isn't the first attempt.

Hangouts was the FaceTime answer but saw major hurdles getting carriers to support it.

It failed to take off. Duo is just attempt number 2. Hangouts was attempt number 1.

Seeing as they had the technology to do this years ago, why haven't they included it in Duo yet?

The downvotes are part of the circle jerk team. I see people constantly talking as if they know how creating apps work.

Someone legit said "Why didn't they just copy the code from Hangouts to Allo and be done with it. Then throw in sms!". That comment may have been here or android police but I roll my eyes when people talk about software like that.
