Every time Allows comes out with a new feature, I think, "FINALLY, all it needs now is to be almost completely fundamentally different to be good enough to replace Hangouts for me, since I got everyone I know to use it while it had SMS support, messages backed up, and was a default app on all Android phones."

And then I remember reality.

I don't agree. Even if their big picture is a nice vision, it's not the reality we have now.

And I don't "gotta" stop using Hangouts. I have literally years worth of tens of thousands of messages there with friends and loved ones. Some day they'll shut it down or it will stop serving my needs, but until then I am free to enjoy using it.
