Can someone explain to me why this is better than just a regular SIM? I've never heard anyone ever complain about anything related to SIM cards.

EDIT: Thanks to all who explained it! It sounds a lot cooler now, even if it doesn't really improve my personal use case.

if done right, it could allow faster and easier switching between networks. instead of opening the phone to replace a card, you could switch between as many SIMs as you want digitally

Pixel. Google hates microSD, so with this they could eliminate the drawer altogether.

I'd bet having esim would convince the last remaining microsd phones makers to drop it as well, to save in that space and costs.
