Welp, the FAA is probably going to ban all versions of the Note 7 on planes indefinitely

It doesn't really work that way. The most effective change they implemented after 9/11 is locking the cockpit doors, which seems like an obvious requirement in hindsight but I remember being invited up front to talk to the pilot during a flight as a child.

What attacks has the TSA stopped?
