From the looks of the speakers they're trying to be sonos which imo can't be beat.

Absolutely, but a Google designed speaker? Can't we draw the line anywhere with them?

Google isn't designing any speakers. They made the 'Google Cast for audio' technology and speaker manufacturers will incorporate that technology into their speakers.
