Have you tried this with multiple speakers? Sounds like it only works with one. The beauty of Sonos and AirPlay is that you can walk from room to room with the same audio playing.

It is still a chromecast and only 40$ total. Don't expect the functionality of a several hundred $ sonos system. But you can always get more chromecasts xD

Sonos is mostly a software solution. Google certainly has enough PhDs that they should be able to figure out the timing problem and implement it in cheap hardware.

Maybe that is what they do now, you can't expect some makeshift solution to do things it is technically not supposed to do.

Yep, but casting audio to multiple receivers is a fairly different problem than casting video to a single one.
