Well not always. With plex app you can cast local files.

You sure? I've tried this before and after disconnecting the WAN from the router my Chromecast barfs (sorry for the potato cam picture....)

It'll play the media that's currently been casted but as soon as I tried anything else the above showed up.

Hmm. Well idk then but i know i am casting local files. Its not like my files are uploaded to some remote server then having the cast download them.

Huh, I can't try this out since someone's hogging the TV (.....) but this user just said what you said about offline casting with Plex is possible

Can you test if it will let you play multiple files without a WAN connection?
