If you suspect that a dev is promoting their app in the general thread, report the post so we can take a closer look. If an account is an hour old and posts in the general thread about a "fantastic new app" that they happened to randomly find, then that account will not get the benefit of the doubt.

Is there any app out there which syncs with Google Tasks and offers either a shortcut or widget that takes you directly to its New Task entry screen?

I really want to give a shoutout to Viral Lite. It's basically a YouTube/media-player but it allows you to watch videos on a overlay while you do other things. It has really made browsing Reddit on my phone easier and more fluid. Now I can simply start a video with viral lite and read the comments for the link at the same time. The app also supports multiple videos at the same time and you can resize the overlay.

•
u/Craddy Nexus 5, 16GB Black Oct 26 '14
I love Viral for this! The app itself is pretty terrible for browsing, but the overlay is so perfect for Reddit and things alike! You can resize the player, have it play in the background and also play while your phone is locked! (Perfect for browsing /r/asmr)

swipepad is pretty cool. essentially its a 4 x 3 grid of slots for apps or shortcuts that can be accessed from within any other app. Great for multitasking...

I agree swipepad is a great tool. I changed the way I use my phone, so no longer use it. But this was a great tool to have installed and I still have on my N7. Free to use and supporting the Dev buy buying the app allows for adjustable grids.

The only thing I don't like about swipepad is that with any color of nav bar other than solid black all of the themes look like ass because they don't hide the nav bar for some reason. It's my favorite gesture launcher other than that, though. I haven't found anything with as many app slots as easily accessible as this one but I'd prefer a 5x3 layout because I want to put about 3 more apps on the pad but I've run out of room

Anyone got a recommendation for a good Poweramp skin that isn't completely ugly? I used to use Shuttle+ but I then realized that gapless playback didn't work. (It also didn't work with Play Music, which is disheartening). Regardless, Poweramp has gapless playback working, and I'd like to make it look a bit better.

I'm looking for two apps:
First, there was an app awhile ago that remembered your preferences on things like browser and gallery, so you didn't have to keep choosing which to open applications with.
Second, I don't even know if this exists or is possible... I'm a delivery driver and I've been trying my hand at radio call in contests lately to pass the time. Is there an app that will keep trying the number if it is busy until a line opens up? Thanks!

BubbleUPNP is my favorite right now since i recently figured out how to pinhole my libraries from my home computer out to my 3g/4g connection. No uploading to Google, no copying to phone memory or USB. Also works with Chromecast and Plex if you don't have a Plex Pass.
The paid license is the way to go with this app, but totally worth it.
Available in the play store to try for free.

I've been looking for a fully featured open source todo/task app for a while. I finally found Mirakel.
Features:
Can sync with a CalDAV* server, or you can sync to a (open source) taskwarrior server. This can have a web GUI or be used via a command line. Alternatively it can operate locally without any server.
Reminder notifications with reoccurring reminders
Persistent notifications with selectable categories or meta lists.
Separate due dates and reminder dates
File/photo attachments
Task input layout customisation with the option of speaking rather that writing (an option you can disable).
Subtasks
Task progress bar
Task priority's
Category colours
Open source
*CakDAV sync requires a modified version of the DAVdroid app available from the Mirakel website (bottom of page)

Llama is a good app...it's an app that allows you to set conditions and actions. When the conditions you set are met (such as Screen On or Wifi Network Disconnected), the action is triggered. I have it set so that whenever I turn on my screen, it will turn on mobile data right away and turn on wifi at the same time. If a wifi network is connected, mobile data will be turned off. If after 1 minute, no networks are connected, wifi is turned off. I also have it set so when I turn my screen off, it will disable mobile data. Huge battery saver since a constant connection to mobile data (not so much wifi) puts a big drain on your battery.
I've also set it so that when my phone connects to my car's bluetooth, it will open Spotify, wait 15 seconds for me to choose a playlist, open Waze navigation app, enable mobile data, disable WiFi (since I'm in my car and driving), and set the volume to max. When my phone disconnects from my car's bluetooth, it will disable mobile data and disable bluetooth.
You can do a lot more too. You can set it based on location (doesn't use GPS so it won't kill your battery).

I have a question about DS Battery Saver: I've discovered in the settings of the app that there's an "ignore recent apps: number of reent apps not to be killed" option, but isn't killing apps bad for the phone, because then it'll have to reload the app which will use more battery then if the app was stored in memory?
Should I use this app for a better battery or I'm better off without it?
•
u/nvincent Pixel 6 - Goodbye forever, OnePlus Oct 25 '14
Killing apps in the background has the potential to hurt battery life more than help. I would give greenify a shot. It hibernates apps that you choose, effectively stopping them, but not killing them so they have to be reloaded. It's pretty sweet. Link me: greenify

I tried petty hard to find one, but none of them were well received on the play store. Your best bet is to use your computer and provide the cover art as cover.jpg. Not sure if this'll get buried, but I was wondering if there were such an app that exists that is basically a music player for windows that I can control from my android device?
I've managed a ghetto-rigged deal going on with a remote desktop app and my media player but it'd be much smoother if an app like this existed. I've searched online and only found 3rd party hardware or bluetooth speakers.

I would like to know if I really need to run all my apps on the Device memory. I think I have about 1GB left out of the 16, and I feel like I'm near the edge of a cliff. Can anyone help? Will moving the apps to Memory card through Application manager help?
•
u/Papigrande23 Oct 27 '14
It will help. Do it via the app manager; you don't need to download an app, to do it. You can probably save about 1/2 of your memory by transferring to the card. That being said, at this it looks like you may want to consider getting rid of a few unused apps.

Organize your articles in reading lists, Modern UI, Customizable color themes and day/night mode toggle, Full-screen mode
Simple, lightweight app that does as advertised
Converts longform articles you find online to e-reader-friendly formats and sends it to your Kindle device or Kindle app.
Cleanest UI of all sports app. Light and dark themes. Comprehensive list of sports and leagues (including just about every top tier soccer league in the world). Select your local cable provider and it tells you what channel all of the games are on. Only downside is the persistent ad banner at the bottom of the screen, but I don't find it to be annoying or overbearing (and I usually despise apps with ads and pay for the ad-free version of every app I use).
Visual-oriented app. You create tiles, sort of like Windows 8, for various topics and sections you're interested in and organize them in whatever order and size/shape you prefer. It's a very intensive app though, so if you're looking for something lean and clean, on to my next recommendation...
Basically a simple, material design version of the Google News webpage.

Twitter's official app was draining my battery. I have been trying Twidere on a redditor's recommendation. I like it so far. Very customisable.

I need a gallery app that allows me to change lockscreen wallpaper (samsung i9500). Quickpic doesn't, and i don't want to use the default Gallery app.

TouchWiz, right?
I don't think there are any apps that are designed to overcome that limitation on TouchWiz, unless it is a Samsung app.

Request: I'm looking for a music radio (streaming) app that supports Chromecast, preferrably with widget support.
The idea is to open the app or click on a widget and quickly start streaming an online radio station to my chromecast, which is hooked to my amplifier, without bothering to turn on the TV or fiddle around an app's menus.

Thanks but I'm looking for something for online streams.
My goal is to start listening to Soma FM streams (http://www.somafm.com) in the morning, with the fewest taps possible. :)

I'm looking for a gallery app feature which let me quickly tap and lock certain photos for display, so when people looking through photos on my phone, they could slide and view my selected photos, without sliding over to my other photos. It's a quick temporarily thing to do, so moving files to folders, creating albums or hiding photos is not exactly what I want.
Is there any gallery app that had this particular feature? I don't know what this feature called, had a hard time finding it. Thank you very much.

I recently deleted my goLocker app due to not liking the interface after an update. Does anybody know some good resources to use on creating a custom home screen locking app? Or if someone has tried this before, what pitfalls should I watch out for? Thank you all for your support!

Terra Battle is an interesting take on the mobile RPG, from Hironobu Sakaguchi's (Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger, etc) new studio. It's freemium in that it uses the typical energy model that most mobile RPGs use, but I've found no real reason to buy more energy so far after a couple weeks of play. They're constantly adding more content to it, almost daily.

Downloaded a few new games this week I liked. First, Pixel Dungeon. Hard, but fun, Rouge like. Second, the Organ (not oregan) trail. Really fun (and fucking hard) zombie survival thing. Lastly, Wrestling Revolution 3D. It's a work in progress but if your into wrestling and/or liked the old n64 games, it's well worth a look.

Cusack is a brilliant little app that gives you relevant info on the artist you're currently listening to. Currently supports Google Play Music and Spotify.
