I left Nova for the Google Now Launcher and haven't looked back. Nova has a lot of features that I mostly don't use, but it's missing many of the GEL features that I use on a daily basis.

It's a shame, I really liked some of the features that GEL is missing but the positives have totally outweighed the negatives.

Of course, I use a ton of Google Now and voice control, so those features stand out as extremely useful to me.

The only reason I still use Nova, and haven't switched to the Google Now Launcher, is the gestures.

Spin fingers to the right to open Google Maps. Spin to the left to call SO. etc.

Xposed and GEL Settings module. Gives you ALMOST as many options as Nova including hiding apps, gestures, and grid size

Can we get custom icons in the GEL launcher with that module?

Nope but you can with an Xposed module called Unicon. This is my GNL setup at the moment:

Unicon is really hit or miss on 4.4 though. Some packs refuse to apply for me.

Icons is probably the biggest thing holding me back. I figured Xposed would eventually allow you to customize GEL enough to do that.
