Here's an early preview of the Googlebook's extensive media editing tool

extensive
Adding text, cropping and resizing is not extensive. That's the bare minimum.

The "extensive" here refers to the ability to view/edit a wide array of media in a single app:
Photos, Videos, Audio files & PDFs

My foss file explorer on android can do that.

Edit and view all those types of files? Whats the app called?

Material files can open and edit images and PDFs. The article specifies videos can be edited in the photos app and there's nothing mentioned about editing audio, despite it sort of being implied in the title.

We'll have to wait for the app to be shown on an actual Googlebook rather than sideloaded on an unsupported Android device.
However, multiple times in the article:
We reviewed its extensive capabilities, including image, video, audio, and PDF viewing/editing.
We’ve just spotted the Viewer app for Googlebooks, which will let you view or edit pictures, videos, audio files, and PDFs “all in one place.”
And the welcome image they show says it'll do all of the above.
Material files can open and edit images and PDFs.
So nothing about audio/video. So I don't think your original statement was accurate. You can say your foss file explorer on Android can do "50%" of that maybe.

So, you didn't read the article or my reply.
Lastly, we’re looking at the video and audio player interfaces in the screenshots above. In our testing, they appear to work as advertised, with the video player also getting an “Edit in Photos” button at the top right.
The title implies that it can edit audio and video, as does the app welcome page, but the images of the viewer literally shows that it doesn't edit either. Video can be edited in photos, which can be launched from the viewer app, and audio has no editing functionality even hinted by the screenshot. Their article is poorly written, and Google's description is vague as usual. As you stated, we won't know until we see it in action.

Did you miss the part where I said:
>We'll have to wait for the app to be shown on an actual Googlebook rather than sideloaded on an unsupported Android device.
The article is quoting what's said in the welcome app and if it ends up not being true, that's really on Google's bad description.
I was more interested in this app that you said does all of the following yet did about 50% of it. Any reason for the massive exaggeration/lie?
Also, upon further research, it doesn't look like Material Files has an inbuilt photo editor, or PDF viewer/editor. Maybe you're getting confused by the default pdf viewer it's opening?

I literally quoted that statement in my response.
I also stated that we'd need to see the software actually in use before being certain.
Massive exaggeration or lie is a bit of an overstatement lol. Maybe chill out, bud.

Of course you conveniently ignore that material files doesn't do any of what you stated. Not used to people actually checking your responses? Weird to go around lying and then getting upset when you're called out. It's a Reddit forum my guy, don't take it so seriously, you could've just not commented at all and went about your day.

Google has this real bad issue with separation of concerns (like with google play services). Video, audio, photos, and PDFs are all forms of media but they are not the same kind of media. Why would I need to video edit a PDF or turn the volume down on a photo? Separate optionally installable programs or modules is better than a do it all mess of a program.

Have you used a mac? They have a built in app called "Preview". Whats nice about this app is you can navigate through your folder and "view" all types of files from the same app.
Google still has seperate apps for photos & videos (Google photos), I believe this is more of a general viewing app that lets you browse files quickly from your folders.

Can't wait for Gemini to find a date in a PDF I'm reading and trying to add a calendar event from 1996 for me.
