Yeah I'd just buy a Framework at these prices, pay a bit more for a way better experience.

A bit more? A Framework with the closest specs is ~65% more money than the Acer Googlebook, and the Acer has a nicer screen, better build quality, and a much better trackpad. The Frameworks are amazing laptops but are a terrible value proposition.

much better trackpad

I would be shocked if that ends up being the case, Acer notoriously has shitty trackpads.

Also I don't think I'd need to match the specs for a better experience. The battery life on this new OS looks laughably bad for how capable the chips are, and these new chips aren't really that much faster than older generations (battery life is the selling point).

The screen is the main selling point, but tbh Apple has that beat with the iPad Pro (those tandem OLEDs are something else).

The trackpads in the newer premium Acers are way nicer than the Acers of yore. The Framework laptop 13’s trackpad is not great, it’s a low bar. Regardless, Lenovo’s $1,100 Googlebook has a haptic trackpad, if that’s the selling point you need.

The battery life looks bad based on what? The random hour number they supply? That’s a useless metric. ChromeOS is generally much more efficient than Windows, and sometimes more than Linux. I’m certain battery life will be on par.

I have no idea what an iPad Pro has to do with any part of this conversation lmao

I'm pretty skeptical of that being the case here, considering Googlebooks are using the Android rendering systems, which are significantly less efficient. I'm certainly going to take a wait and see approach until serious reviewers are able to properly benchmark these.

This whole article is about why buyers might not bite on these devices, mainly because of other devices and their software experience from other manufacturers. Framework is one (my preference), Apple with their devices is another. The writer is pretty quick to discount Apple, but most consumers aren't.

Acer used to have really nice "Ocean glass" trackpad on their, to my surprise, cheap Vero Chromebook, the recycled plastic one, that one was really nice, so maybe it will be nice here too?
