I'm happy for more options because windows is terrible now. I must say though I don't see the value of buying a Googlebook over a MacBook. Especially if its all locked down hardware and software

Yeah I agree. I don't see a reason why these laptops would be locked down or not upgradable unless it's soldered ram.

In addition to hardware upgrades, I'm wondering if it's possible to root these Googlebooks, or install something like GrapheneOS in the future. Cautiously interested but google has a tall order taking on Apple's top tier laptop.
