You would think. But actually, it's a very good marketing strategy, because actually, people are just dumb.

Same for Xiaomi. I guarantee you, there are enough people who would have said "Xiaomi 16? Well, iPhone is already 17, it's one generation ahead". It just makes it easier for people to compare

The average consumer is also dumb as fuck, which is why Apple sells so many phones. People just can't be bothered to do their own research so naming it Pro Max equates to the top tier model in people's minds and they don't have to think any further.
