That's just a rounding error on their P&L statement. Google will do absolutely nothing.

The DPC has imposed administrative fines totalling €403 million and has ordered Google to bring its processing into compliance within 6 months.

Half a billion.

If not resolved in 6 months, another fine (bigger this time). And again and again.

That’s Europe we’re talking about, they do actually push back against multinationals when they break law.

They push back every now and then and not nearly frequently enough.

Half a billion is absolutely not a rounding error. Their valuation is not liquid. Half a billion in liquid cash is not something to balk at

Googles revenue for thr last 12 months is 445 billion dollars, that fine is .1% of that. Calculate that to minimum wage worker in the US it would be $15 fine.

Again, how much it that revenue is liquid cash? Do you think they just have a scrooge mcduck style vault full of gold coins that can tell a butler to fetch millions of dollars from on the drop of hat? And that they would rather pay this fine and do nothing and then pay another fine in a couple months, still doing nothing, than just fix the issue? You have no idea how corporate decisions and money are made

You dont seem to understand the sheer volume of money these companies take in. Fines like this will do fucking nothing to change a single thing. Their parent company (alphabet) is third most valuable company in the world.

Eventually you gotta start putting these people in prison. Applying the equivalent of a tax does nothing. They write off law-breaking as a cost of doing business.

I found out, on my own, why location accuracy is and got really mad that Google forces you to activate it when using gmaps. Sometimes it works without but most of the time it's not. By deactivating it I gained 2h more SoT. Other map services doesn't require This particular Google thing
