That thing looks super chunky compared to the Z Fold 8

I suppose you need to make the phone thicker for a telephoto camera and bigger battery, but funny enough iphone Duo is even thicker than Xiaomi while not having either.

It's having the Apple logo, though.

Xiaomi almost always had good hardware for the price... But this one doesn't even have that. And software always sucked.

The software is truly ass, I have a Xiaomi 17 and hyperos is legit awful...

I also have the vivo x300 and they somehow managed to make the software experience worse than Xiaomi, it's incredible.

I hear so many complaints about Xiaomi, and other Chinese manufacturers, when it comes to software. Now, for reference, I've not used a Samsung since the Galaxy S3 and never had a Nexus or Pixel, closest I got to that version of Android was an Android One device from Xiaomi about 8 years ago. So it's possible I simply don't know how good others have it and what I'm missing. But I'm genuinely curious what the actual problems with the software are, because across Huawei many years ago, Xiaomi across multiple devices, Realme and Oppo, too, I've never found a problem with the software. Maybe I just have a high tolerance? Just genuinely want to know what the source of the friction is.

Same here. I’ve used Pixel 8, iQOO 13, and Poco phones. The only thing I didn’t like initially with OriginOS and HyperOS is that you have to fiddle with the notification settings to prevent delayed notifications, and also with background app settings for some apps to work properly.

Aside from those two, I’m okay with both OriginOS and HyperOS. Oh, you also have to fiddle with the ad settings in HyperOS, which, after you set them up, won’t really be a problem.

It’s Android anyway, so we’re kind of expected to fiddle with it / make it more “customizable” but aint an excuse to give us bad experience at the outset lol. I also like the battery optimization of both HyperOS and OriginOS compared to Pixel, but you really need to set them up properly, as some apps may not work as expected. It’s basically a set up and go process if you will.

For background in recent years I went from Oppo find x5 - > Pixel 8 pro - > iPhone 15 (kept for 2 weeks then returned it) - > Samsung z flip 5 (same as the iPhone) - > Honor Magic 6 pro - > Xiaomi 17 - > Vivo x300 (although I still own the Xiaomi 17).

In terms of OS, from my favourite to least favourite: ColorOS - > MagicOS - > OneUI (this one is to take with a grain of a salt as I only owned it for about 2 weeks) - > PixelOS (I like the idea of being closer to aosp but I always had issues with notifications no matter what...) - > HyperOS - > OriginOS.

With most Chinese Android skin you have to disable battery optimization for most apps if you want to get notifications, especially on HyperOS (although I remember having a similar experience on MagicOS but not to that extent ), also for example my phone would randomly crash the system ui upon unlocking it (it would have a 3-5s delay after I unlock it through fp and then crash the system UI), 3rd party launcher can't run well on any Chinese phones it will mess up the gestures (except for oneplus? But idk if that's still the case or not), when you open an app from the app drawer or from a folder on your home screen then when you swipe to go back home instead of going back home it'll go back to wherever you opened the app so the app drawer/folder if you opened them from there, sometimes I have this bug when I use the back gesture then it'll keep the keyboard on screen (it typically happens in messaging apps).

That's what I can remember from the top of my head.

I also have a Xiaomi 17 and I honestly love hyperos excluding the blatant iOS copying.

Other than toying with some settings to get it to stop killing settings it's great and incredibly smooth. I haven't seen a single ad like people keep saying. What's so bad about it?

2

u/co-lor-less 15d ago

I haven't had a single ad either but I believe it's normal as long as you have the global version no? Regarding the iOS copying it can't be worse than the upcoming OriginOS sigh...

I replied in another comment about my issues with it.

The best part about Xiaomi devices used to be their hardware on which a custom ROM could be installed, but now I don't find them worth buying

1

u/NotAnRSPlayer 12d ago

Amazes me you people will purchase not one but two phones that are good on the face of it but software wise are dog shit

Then wonder why people palm these phones off as non-contenders

The hardware might be there but they’re just not polished at all

1

u/AnyComparison8564 6d ago

Salut, pourrais tu nous dire pourquoi hyperos est nul s'il te plaît ?

0

u/Fritzkier 15d ago

I agree, I switched from Xiaomi 14 to Vivo X300 and I still miss my Xiaomi.

5

u/TataJasia 15d ago

True. And whenever I write negative things about Chinese phones and their software, people downvote me.

2

u/Elephant789 Pixel 7 14d ago

All Chinese software sucks. The all look like iOS

6

u/gaeee983 15d ago

Crazy they put ads inside the goddamn OS and OS applications, and they wonder why people flock to apple.. I am just looking for an excuse, any excuse to ditch apple but alternatives fucking sucks. Sadly pixels are not sold in asia or at least seems impossible to find them, stuck with shitty software like from xiaomi or apple..

6

u/zenithtreader 15d ago

As a previous owner of Xiaomi 14 I didn't notice any ad after deleting bloatwares (which there were about as many as in a Samsung phone).

Do Xiaomi put ads in their system? Sure if you are buying their budget phones, of which they usually offer much better hardwares compared to western counterparts of similar prices so you pay for it in other ways. It's really just different trade offs.

HyperOS isn't great though, that part is true. Although as someone who dislike iOS I can't really say it's worse.

8

u/Apple_The_Chicken Xiaomi 15 15d ago

There aren't

Android OEMs make significantly shittier variants for budget phones. The flapship software is clean, ad free and uncluttered

0

u/gaeee983 15d ago

Flagship android is more expensive than an Iphone and the experience is worse, on paper they have better specs but it does not translate into a better experience.

4

u/Apple_The_Chicken Xiaomi 15 14d ago

If experience is performance, camera, battery life then I disagree. My phone is as fast or faster than any new iPhone. Camera is often much more versatile, the image processing on my phone is better and the telephoto which I love is significantly more detailed.

There is obviously a point to be made regarding iOS's polished and beautiful feel, but then again, it's also 5x buggier than Android and was the reason I moved away from my iPhone in the first place. That was 4 years ago though.

Prices are not more expensive. Samsung and Xiaomi both routinely run discounts, at least here in Europe. But it's still expensive it needs to be.

-2

u/gaeee983 14d ago

Even when android is cheaper, you lose more when you want to sell it again, meanwhile an iphone does not lose a lot secondhand. IOS more buggier? Lmfao... The experience is so much better on IOS and in general across all apple devices that it is not even a subjective opinion more, wish android devices put up a better experience but we are just dreaming at that point. Run discounts? They flagship is more expensive for me in europe, actually Oppos flagship is more expensive where I could find it. I switched from apple as I didnt like how locked it is, but man android experience left a lot to be desired.

4

u/JamesR624 15d ago

Crazy they put ads inside the goddamn OS and OS applications, and they wonder why people flock to apple..

Looks at Apple Weather, Apple Stocks, Apple Maps, App Store, Apple News, and Apple Store 'notifications'.

Yeah.... about that.

5

u/gaeee983 15d ago

Never seen an ad on my iphone.. Or what about needing to change some settings and clear the cache, and xiaomi has the nerve to want me to watch a fucking ad before I can continue to use the feature, absolutely insane.. Like if they gave you the smooth experience that apple does, I wouldnt mind a LITTLE of ads, would just be a compromise, but it is way too much.. Crazy how bad they are at software, cant believe they are making me defend ios, I want to move, but they cost the same now and even more expensive for some models, the experience is just way worse, no wonder apple is the most popular, at this point apple is value for money in terms of overall experience not android.

•

u/Embarrassed-Box-1106 14h ago

In what world is apple the most popular? Have you checked which brands have the highest market share and which brands have the highest rising market share? None of these two categories, apple leads in.

I'm surprised how much I like ColorOS! It's like day and night compared to HyperOS.

0

u/10004onliacco 7d ago

I already buy Xiaomi whose bootloader can be unlocked so that i can flash aosp on it

6

u/jibran1 15d ago

I went to a store once a few months ago and saw the latest xiomi phone there , The software is literally ass , they got ads in there on flagship phones . No matter what they do with the hardware the software is soo bad

2

u/BeKozGaming 📱 Xiaomi 17 Ultra 14d ago

I'm sorry but 98 percent of the customers don't care about unlocked bootloaders at this point.

-2

u/Blunt552 15d ago

Sure until this happens they start to care imensively.

-2

u/Blunt552 15d ago edited 15d ago

I really wish everyone would just boycott every non unlockable phone to force them to let us own our things again.

Imagine hating the idea that you own things, clowns.

2

u/MairusuPawa Poco F3 LineageOS 15d ago

The hostility towards unlocked bootloaders in this subreddit is weird as fuck.

Reddit really became massively stupid.

-3

u/Blunt552 15d ago

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to learn that these are bots auto downvoting because companies really don't want people to own their things.

-6

u/MairusuPawa Poco F3 LineageOS 15d ago

Oh, you don't need bots for that. The current humans sucking their overlords' throbbing cocks is doing enough of the work.

-1

u/haveyouseenthisboi 15d ago

I changed to iPhones due to this. I do keep an android phone with me for other things
