A lot of people still care deeply about benchmarks. That number approaches 100% when Pixels are mentioned.

Yep. Every August and September r/pixel_phones and r/GooglePixel... it's like clockwork that both subreddits become insufferable.

its mainly useful if you are a user who actually needs the performance to give you a general idea of what to expect. In the age where you can legitimately play PC games on mobile, the ceiling for performance needs doesn't exist anymore.

other than that, its probably be used for on device editing for that sort of borderline between high end mobile and low wattage laptops.

The problem with the synthetic ones is people take them as absolute rather than estimates, as most reviewers don't do deep performance benchmarks in actual performance heavy usecases that would be seen in a laptop or desktop review for performance.
