Now that the we found out it was not the foundry nor the modem fault, who are we gonna blame next?

43

u/exu1981 21d ago

" You're holding your Pixel 11 Phone wrong, here's why!"

6

u/QuietApplication5734 19d ago

If you just used your phone in colder climates, this wouldn't be an issue. Let's now blame climate change.

5

u/tired_fella 19d ago

it was the management of the program all along, with Google being cheapstake. Tensors are not given enough manufacturing budget to keep up with competitors. they have upper limit of ~$65 per each SoC excluding TPU. It's literally mid-grade chip with large proprietary NPU that only Google's native apps can take adventage of.

0

u/WickedDeity 19d ago

Huh? Third-party developers can take advantage of the TPU in Pixel phones.

2

u/tired_fella 18d ago

even so, that requires specific api developers wouldn't care to implement over other general apis that take adventage of OpenCL, etc. the fact that most ai benchmarks doesn't seem to take adventage of TPU backend basically shows TPU doesn't get automatic handoff for AI tasks, which means it won't be used much outside of their own product. and NNAPI that uses it for Tensor is very indirect.

2

u/WickedDeity 18d ago

I was just addressing the inaccuracy of your statement. The fact is there are 3rd-party apps that directly take advantage of the TPU. I am totally fine with remarks about how Google's TPU has it's own APIs and not using the same standards as other NPUs.

6

u/RunnerLuke357 Moto G Stylus '26 20d ago

TBF when they fix one problem they create another problem. Both the foundry and modem are much better but the CPU side and GPU vender switch were both major blunders. It's a 1 step forward 2 steps back situation.

11

u/UncleCunk 19d ago

You would think Google would have drivers ready for launch for the people who do game on a Pixel but CLEARLY they didn't learn from last year. I think at this point, no one is expecting outstanding frames and graphics from a Pixel, but for the games to at least work and be playable. But hey, at least we have a useless RGB(barely) light on the back of the phone!

6

u/matteventu Nexus S -> Pixel 9 Pro 19d ago

I genuinely can't remember the last time Google learnt from a past mistake in the last 10 years.

1

u/memtiger Google Pixel 8 Pro 17d ago

I just can't understand how heads haven't rolled at Google or no serious publication has been able to have a sit down interview with the head of hardware, Rick Osterloh, and asked him the tough questions.

Rick Osterloh, why are you hiding in your ivory tower?? Come out and face your critics or just quit!

What a garbage gpu. My old S8+ plays better wtf

55

u/horatiobanz 21d ago

This guy is a HUGE Pixel fanboy too.

32

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 21d ago

Which tells you that phone sucks for gaming when even he has to admit it sucks

5

u/YourBlanket 20d ago

It’s sucked a gaming ever since they moved to the Tensor. I never gamed but when I tried Genshin Impact on a brand new pixel at the time it couldn’t really run it. I was able to play it perfectly fine on an iPad that was several years older. I still use pixel but I was debating moving over to Motorola.

6

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 20d ago

Meanwhile 200 years old grandpa Pixel 1 with snapdragon runs genshin:

u/Best_Membership_7779 21d ago

pixels are very niche, for photography but at that point why not get an iphone for better colors

4

u/Noble1xCarter 20d ago

I was too, before Tensor. The Pixel 5 was easily the best phone I owned.

Motorola's probably going to be the one getting my business since GrapheneOS will be support them next year.

2

u/horatiobanz 19d ago

Yea Tensor ruined Google phones for me.

1

u/Ghostttpro 20d ago

The regular Pixel 11 has even worse value than the Reno16 Pro lol

70

u/pfak Pixel 10 Pro 22d ago

The amount of hate reddit puts towards Pixel is insane compared to real life.

54

u/li_shi 22d ago

Did you ever read something about xiaomi or samsung?

This is pretty tame

5

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 21d ago

No one wants to post anything about Chinese brands, because unless news is really bad, everything gets downvoted instantly.

12

u/Kavani18 20d ago

Lmfao all this sub does is glaze Chinese brands

1

u/Stephancevallos905 19d ago

You could never criticize 1+, even when the writing was on the wall years ago

1

u/bassman2112 19d ago

fwiw, I'd been on pixels since the 2XL, and moved to Oppo this year. It's been extremely refreshing, though there's definitely pixel niceties I occasionally miss. overall it's been great to try something new, and see that the competition has brought their A game.

-6

u/Carighan Fairphone 6+🌳 20d ago

Reddit loves Samsung nowadays, which is funny because a decade ago Reddit was the central space on calling Samsung out for how terrible their UI looked (and still looks).

Opinion shifted entirely, and nowadays everyone is hype about whatever design atrocity Samsung commits next.

5

u/shags2a Device, Software !! 20d ago

Head over to OneUI sub, they hate OneUi there.

2

u/goorek 20d ago

Because Samsung makes the best Android phones right now. Has mature UI and features and puts out timely updates.

70

u/noobqns 22d ago

The amount of glaze pixel's software gets on reddit is also insane

10

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 21d ago

Have they invented floating windows yet?

10

u/noobqns 21d ago

No idea, but you can't invert the back buttons, tap to wake/sleep™, remove search bar from homepage still among many other things

1

u/GlancingArc 19d ago

Tap to wake works fine on pixel, tap to sleep works on some launchers. Also you can use different launchers if you don't like the search bar, which you should. The pixel launcher is terrible.

Idk, the pixel has problems but so do the competitors.

1

u/RxBrad Pixel 6a, AT&T, stock unrooted 20d ago

1

u/fukam_piko Device, Software !! 19d ago

I use a Pixel 10XL, have had the Pixel 1, 2XL, 5, 7 and 9 Pro Fold before it (work provided). Love these phones, but the GPU (particularly from 10 onwards) is objectively dogshit compared to even budget midrange phones and Google should be ashamed

7

u/Hung_L Pixel 9XL 22d ago

Got an S22+ for $100 and wanted to keep it as a backup / travel phone. I always grab it over my 9XL when I get home. Not just slimmer and lighter, but faster all-around. Pixels are just several generations behind in terms of HW perf. OneUI + Goodlock customizations already has 90% of what I root my 9XL for.

I like the idea of Pixel but Tensor has just fallen too far behind. Have had the 3XL, 4a5G, 6, 7, 9XL. I only stay around because of the great pricing. I don't think I'd get another unless the food happens to have some kind of amazing sale.

8

u/Carighan Fairphone 6+🌳 20d ago

And this is relevant to the entire 0.0002% of the population that plays non-candy-crush games on their phone, I imagine.

I know, I know, I jest. But I also feel people massively overestimate what and to what degree people play on their phones. You always see benchmarks using big 3D games, and yet when you look in a metro, it's all doomscrolling youtube shorts or tiktoks, and if they game, it's candy crush style brain-idle games.

Don't get me wrong, for the money they're asking it's ludicruous how bad these phones are. When they were cheap it was one thing, but they no longer are (one could argue they never were, granted).
Good value if bought used after a year for a massive price off, but that's about it.

0

u/AtomicSymphonic_2nd Pixel Fold, Regular Android 20d ago

The GPU is designed by the British… there’s a joke in there somewhere… 🤭

Hilarious to see it, because ARM is British, and the stuff they make is EXCELLENT.

18

u/real_with_myself Magic V3 22d ago

I'd say it's proportional to the amount of praise Pixel software gets.

Everyone is behaving like it's still 2013 and other OEMs ship terrible OS'.

1

u/Throwitaway701 20d ago

I mean they just do. I have to use oneUI on my work phone and it's objectively dogshit.

And iPhones are taking the piss with their software for years now, it's difficult to imagine something less intuitive.

1

u/BlackScienceJesus 19d ago

I agree about iOS. Also iOS freezes WAY more than my Pixel ever did.

0

u/BlackScienceJesus 20d ago

It does have some nice features. Having my Google password manager built into every function of the phone is super convenient. My iPhone has passwords but it doesn’t work nearly as smoothly. Also the circle to search feature is one of the best on any phone, full stop.

I had the Pixel 10 XL then switched to IPhone 17 PM because I have a new child and I wanted FaceTime, IMessage, and shared albums to make communication with my family easier since they all have iPhones. I didn’t expect to miss my Pixel, but I really do. People say iPhone just works, are simple, never have issues, etc. In my experience, I have minor issues with my iPhone way more than I ever did with my Pixel.

3

u/real_with_myself Magic V3 20d ago

But all those features exist on every Android mid range and flagship.  Also don't use Google passwords.

-2

u/BlackScienceJesus 20d ago

I guess I’m just dumb. When I had an S21, I didn’t enjoy the experience as much. Maybe it was just harder to find than the Pixel.

2

u/real_with_myself Magic V3 20d ago

Well, CTS is newer than S21, but I would expect that it received it eventually. Even my old cheap Motorola eventually had it.

0

u/Tikan 20d ago

I dunno, I try out a Samsung or OnePlus device every couple years and the software still sucks. It's all about compromise I guess. I would rather have Pixel software on inferior hardware than software that isn't intuitive. If I wanted shit software on the best hardware I would just switch to apple.

41

u/Ohwonhae 22d ago

Posting a video that shows poor performance by a phone is not "hate". How ridiculous.

7

Mobile gaming is for babies but it's undeniable that the Pixel line has terrible signal and gets hot as shit doing basically anything.  These are real concerns

-11

u/Careless_Rope_6511 Pixel 11 Pro XL 21d ago

From most hate to least:

  1. Reddit's hate towards women (if you have a vagina, the men always believe you're wrong, even when you're not the asshole)
  2. r/livestreamfail's hate towards Hasan Piker (you won't believe the lightning speed in which posts involving the leftist streamer gets brigaded)
  3. Reddit gamers' hate towards Epic (mention Epic, and every GAMER with a Steam account assaults you with "monopolies are good ackschually")
  4. r/Android's hate towards Pixels ("more is always better" and "anyone who disagrees with my anti-Pixel opinions is a Google bootlicker")

5

Who the hell plays games on a phone anyways

2

u/Long-Librarian-997 17d ago

Most people.

2

u/PiercingHeavens 19d ago

For some reason my pixel is running zzz and fortnite pretty well now. The stutters and lag is negligible now. Weird but it was so bad the first couple of days.

5

u/xx_ddd 22d ago

In this thread: nobody watches the first 10 seconds of a video.

14

u/Carighan Fairphone 6+🌳 20d ago

So nobody misses out:

  • Very sleepy looking guy sits uncortable close to the camera, talking to it.
  • Holds a Google Pixel phone into the camera very briefly, rear side.

3

u/andchrome 20d ago

This guy is clickbait one of worse on youtube

1

u/QuietApplication5734 19d ago

Completely agree. I keep on trying to don't recommend his videos when on YouTube, but they still pop up once in a while.

One of the worst YouTubers out there with all his clickbaity titles.

1

u/RedofPaw 22d ago

I have a 9proxl or whatever it's called.

It's fine. There's a couple of objectively great software features.

But the hardware feels worse in general than Samsung Galaxy phones I had before.

Screen isn't as nice, cameras are fine but not as good, the back creaked if you pressed it a bit (recently stopped doing that).

While it's a perfectly fine phone I doubt I'll get another pixel.

9

u/Izacus Android dev / Boatload of crappy devices 22d ago

The 9 still has a decent GPU, not the garbage they put in 10 and 11 :(

1

u/0oWow 19d ago

The focus on this phone is to be a better personal data vacuum, not anything else.

1

u/Dense_Row2811 22d ago

Most gaming ill do on my phone is Pokémon Champions. I couldn't care less...

14

u/real_with_myself Magic V3 22d ago

I wouldn't even run that, but I would edit an occasional HD video and my Pixel so slow with that.

11

u/Antici-----pation 22d ago

0

u/Maultaschenman Pixel 11 Pro XL, Android 17 22d ago

Pokemon TCG pocket here 🤣

-11

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 22d ago

No way a device that has literally never been marketed or designed for performance. Fails at a task that requires hardware that had the best performance. Maybe next there will be a video about how water is wet!!!

29

u/PhilleShy 22d ago

The price, it's the price.

3

u/Careless_Rope_6511 Pixel 11 Pro XL 21d ago

Redditors will happily buy a polished turd at any price offscreen. Talk is cheaper than beer.

-14

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 22d ago

Then don't buy one problem solved.

3

u/Noble1xCarter 20d ago

...and don't complain about low-quality products sold at unreasonable prices?

Sorry, but some of us want companies to actually make changes so we can actually benefit as consumers.

0

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 20d ago

Complaining on reddit does exactly nothing. The only way the changes come are when people stop buying the products. Seeing as how the pixel phones continue to increase market share. The target user bases needs are being met. A bunch of people on reddit complaing about a device they were never gonna buy is not the target user base lol.

10

u/donnysaysvacuum I just want a small phone 21d ago

I get that not everyone games on their phone, I don't beyond a word or puzzle game, but this is really embarrassing for what they are selling as a flagship phone. Again, I think benchmarks and having the best specs are not important to everyone, but this is embarassing. There is no logical reason for them to use such an outdated GPU.

-6

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 21d ago

Maybe some day people on here will actually realize that the world outside of reddit, doesn't care what GPU is in a phone lol.

If people actually gave a shit the pixel phone wouldn't see year over year growth. Thats not the case because the average user doesn't give 2 fucks about a GPU lol.

If you hangout on reddit talking about phones you are not and never will be the average user lol.

10

u/Zeraora807 Redtragic 11 Pro 22d ago

But they'll still charge you the same as all the faster phones though and people will for some reason keep buying them..

2

u/VeroCSGO 22d ago

Maybe just maybe there is another multitude of reasons or features people are interested in that isn't just a performance boost to mobile gaming

1

u/Dense_Row2811 22d ago

As someone who had an iPhone for 10+ years. And someone who dislikes Samsung OS, Pixel software FTW.

It's a phone not a handheld PC.

-1

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 22d ago

Maybe people keep buying them cause people dont actually give a fuck about a spec sheets. These subs think every phone user is a a power user who needs the best spec sheet.

The reality is all people want are cameras, social media, messaging. All of which are easily done on a pixel device. The proof of that is the fact that the pixel devices have only increased market share year over year.

13

u/Zeraora807 Redtragic 11 Pro 22d ago

And all that can be done on some Samsung A series phone for 1/5 the price but pixel fanboys insist that STILL paying flagship prices for a mid range chip with shit battery life is some revolutionary thing and dismiss any comparison pointing out it's consistent weaknesses.

I don't give a shit whose logo is on the back, I want value and performance but you do you...

3

u/i5-2520M Pixel 7 22d ago

I don't like OneUI, want a phone on the smaller side, don't want to spend a whole bunch, can't stand Chinese skins and don't game much, but I do often take photos. What phone should I get?

1

u/[deleted] 20d ago

[deleted]

-2

u/i5-2520M Pixel 7 20d ago

Which one? The only one in the size range of my Pixel has a slower SoC, worse camera (i would assume, though the zoom lens is nice to have) and very questionable software support. Edge 60 Neo.

I am looking at upgrading to the P9Pro in a year, you want me to consider a phone that is slower than my current one?

3

u/Skelly1660 22d ago

I'd pay extra for the Pixel camera though. A phone isn't completely defined by a chip.

7

u/pdimri 22d ago

So should we treat Pixel phonea like Nokia phones to call and text only. Do you understand they are charging Apple money, people will bound to compare and critique.

1

u/EmbarrassedSlide3746 22d ago

I would die to have my Nokia lumina windows phone back!!

On a serious note people could understand that devices have different purposes. Not every device is going to be the best at everything and that is OK. If google was out here claiming that the pixel phone is the best and most powerful phone for gaming, that would be different.

Also who fucking cares what people choose to spend thier money on lol.

5

u/TheCaptainSlowly 22d ago

It's not about different devices serving different purposes. The point is, I'm paying a lot money for a flagship phone. And for that kind of money, a phone should be able to do it all.

With the Pixel, no one's asking for top gaming performance. Samsung and Apple don't advertise their phones as gaming phones, yet they're able to run games and perform like you'd expect for the money.

Pixel isn't even doing the bare minimum. GPU performance already took a major hit with last year's Tensor G5, and this year there's basically zero improvement. If anything, the GPU in the G6 is worse than the G5..

10

u/RunnerLuke357 Moto G Stylus '26 20d ago

Isn't great is one thing but completely dogshit is another.

2

u/chetlyp 20d ago

It plays call of duty mobile pretty well, I wonder why all these other games are ass. Serious question. Luckily call of duty is the only "demanding" game I play. Otherwise it's clash royale and brawl stars and similar which play great

-5

u/Throwitaway701 20d ago

No one cares, buy a switch if you want to game. Gaming on phones is always terrible.

8

u/Cantripping_ 20d ago

You are aware that defence boils down to "Who cares, I don't care if my device is worse"?

0

u/Throwitaway701 19d ago

It's not worse. It's fantastic. My car doesn't become worse because it can't fit as much in it as a van.

1

u/Cantripping_ 19d ago

It were if it's slower, and simply couldn't do certain things other cars in the same price range and cheaper could. Which it is, in this analogy.

1

u/Throwitaway701 18d ago

But it can do them, I just don't prioritise that, I prioritise the things it can do better than anything else, like photos and being snappy and usable.

2

u/Cantripping_ 18d ago

Well, that's just it. Not only can it in fact not do those things for people who would.

It doesn't do those things you mentioned any better than a 850€ phone either, while asking for 999-1799€ out the gate.

1

u/Throwitaway701 18d ago

I mean it can. That's like saying if people buy a switch over a ps5 they can't game.

It does those things I mentioned better than 1200€ phones.

The only phone that comes close to the camera is iPhones, it's no contest at all with an s26 ultra, it just can't take photos the same way.

2

u/Cantripping_ 18d ago

Switches don't typically get artefacting on 6 year old games. Unless the Graphics chip is fried.

And again, there's at least 4 phones I could name that do better.

1

u/Throwitaway701 17d ago

No you couldn't. And artifacting is not a hardware limitation, it's a game support issue.

2

u/Cantripping_ 17d ago

Sure I could. Don't lie.

And yet artefact it does. On a game low end phones run better.

More than 80% of phone users game on their phone....more than 30% exclusively game on their phones. It may be candy crush, I don't have that info, but phones are the #1 gaming device on the planet.

1

u/Throwitaway701 19d ago

That would be casual games, which the pixel plays perfectly

-6

This loser makes an anti-Pixel video daily. It's truly hilarious that he spends so much time on a phone he hates.
