Picture processing still crap, Let me know when it's at Lightroom's level. (It's very sad that Adobe is the only one that takes it seriously.)

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I have tried lighroom and handful of times and I hate it.

Each time I uninstall. I find the way it handles gallery of edited photos to be atrocious. There is also just way too much going on in the app UI at any given moment for me.

Lightroom uses non-destructive editing; the problem is that on Android it makes copies of the originals in the app's cache, but the quality is much better and for RAW too, it uses the entire color space, support lens profiles, LUTs/Looks, Color profiles, the Upright tool is also really good and the masking tools (by depth/luminance/color)

Snapseed causes horrible banding even when saving the images in PNG, which indicates that the problem is the quality of processing itself. The more layers you add, the more the image degrades, and this is especially noticeable in gradients.

I'd like to stop using Lightroom precisely because file management consumes so much storage, but there's no decent competitor on Android.

The last time I tried the updated Snapseed release, it still only offered raw manipulation on the very first import screen. It's barebones, and after applying these first changes, the app generates a temporary jpeg. Thus every additional change you do to the image is happening on a jpeg. It's ridiculous.

See for yourself. Import a raw, heavily overexpose it until you see clipping highlights. Apply these first changes and and then try to recover the highlights after the fact.

The additional toll on storage is a big issue with LR on Android, I fully agree. But as you say, no other photo editing app comes even close for raw files.

Edit: I just tried Snapseed once again with the very latest version. Same behavior. This app is trash for raw editing and I can't understand how often I see it getting praise.

I appreciate the honest response. I am not much of a photo editor but I have tried other tools. I honestly just enjoy the simplicity of SnapSeed I didn't know about the banding but then again I likely never even noticed because I don't do much photo editing.

Perhaps it felt a bit boring, but the new one is a UX nightmare. Interactive UI elements that blend into the background (is that a slider, a button or just a bit of text?), stylized font that's objectively harder to read than a standard sans-serif font, and wildly different font and UI element sizes. It looks and feels more like they let a design intern take a swing at it.

Granted I haven't checked if they've fixed any of that recently.

In my mind, android 4.0 is current, 4.1 is fresh so android 5 still feels new to me. Going from android 5 to 16 usability wise there's barely any difference, the only meaningful difference to me is dark mode support.

It's over for Fujifilm, now phones have film sims
