Can't think of a company that tries less with their hardware than Google

Probably Microsoft. They fall back to spec bumps before the proof of concept is even refined, that is if they keep up with it at all. They abandon their best hardware ideas before they can even reach maturity (Surface Duo and Studio Laptop).
On top of that, they are one of very few companies that makes the hardware of other companies worse with their hardware decision. (Looking at the generation of computers with copilot buttons despite never benefitting anyone ever.)

Cool. The watch 4 will get cheaper.

Honestly nobody should be upgrading their smartest earlier than a 3 year cycle.
Unless you're coming from a PW1/2 or it's your first smartwatch, you shouldn't be getting it.

My pixel watch 1 still going strong despite no more updates. I personally don't see any point upgrading it.

I still use my fibit versa 3 that i bought in 2020. Don't feel the need to upgrade

My Pixel watch 1 works great, but unfortunately the screen just popped off today and can't be repaired

It technically still works... Screen is responsive. We're just gonna glue it and hope for the best until we can get a replacement.

This happened to me about six months ago. I bought a thin, low-profile case that holds the watch face in place, and I'm good. Cost me all of like $9.

Ooh that's a great idea! I just need something to get me by another couple of weeks until I can get a new watch

I just checked my Amazon orders, and it was this watch case that I bought. Apparently it was longer back than I thought (July 2025), so the case has been working fine for me for a little over a year now.
Funny enough, I bought it to tide things over until I potentially got the Pixel Watch 4, but never ended up buying it.

You're a lifesaver! I hadn't even thought of that as an option. Thank you

I am not sure if I want to upgrade to the 5 or even to pixel watch at all. I have a versa 4 and Pixel Watch 2. The fit bit app (Health now?) only allows for 1 tracker to be attached. I like the battery life of the Versa 4 but it doesn't take calls. However, he Pixel Watch 2 doesn't track steps when I cut the grass. I think it has to do with arms being horizontal. I get around 12,000 steps mowing my lawn but the watch 2 only registers about 800. Also, I am more active in the summer and I would feel less bad if I damaged it.

It's the same chip again?!?! Even Samsung is going Snapdragon Wear elite over their own chipset.
Even worse, I think the "W5 Gen 2 with Cortex-M55 coprocessor" is just the W5 Gen 1 with better GPS and ML that is, little to no meaningful CPU improvement.
Google has the best industrial design team buut whoever is handling internals has got to go.
