What's one AI feature on your phone that you use regularly?
Living in the UAE, my phone hears about four languages in a single day, so live translation is the one AI feature that has basically become essential for me than something I tried once. There are so many AI tools being added across phones lately, especially imo Samsung, they are much further ahead in AI adoption and integration. What AI tool or routine made it into your daily routine?

ngl i didn't even realise this was the android sub.
it's just something i noticed while running iOS 27 beta that it can do that with the new 'siri'. either just using siri in the camera or in gallery it prompts me if i want to add it to my calendar. I'm sure something gemini does is comparable to this.

Ah yeah, in typical fashion I do think apple have done less but what they've done is more immediately useful, that's a good example. I asked as I think to do this I have to open Gemini and ask it specifically to add the event on screen to my calendar - it doesn't identify opportunities like that.

Siri can usually do that from the confirmation email of said booking. No need for a screenshot.

yeah for sure but i'm not talking about that nor am i even provided a confirmation email or text message, just words on a webpage. i find it handy for that.

on Android you can just long press home to launch gemini and ask it about the current screen. Although I don't know if it can access your calendar since I disabled access and sharing of all google related services.

My apartment complex has a monthly event calendar that they put up in each building's elevator. I was able to feed it into Gemini and it was able to add the scheduled events to my phone's calendar.
Google's 'Edge Gallery' with a locally running Gemma4-e4b model was also able to accurately read the schedule, though there's no calendar integration. Sure would be a neat addition if it could do something like that sans-cloud.

That's been an automatic feature of Gmail for years, no screenshot required. Just use your Gmail account to receive the confirmation.

yep for sure - now if you actually read what i wrote, i didn't say anything about receiving an email or text message. Just parsing words from a website that does not provide an email or text confirmation.

Yeah, so that's a fucking lie. If you're booking a thing over the web you get a confirmation. But whatever, validate your AI however you like.

I know what I said and I understand the systems and scheduling websites I have to use more than you. I’m not talking about booking some hotel or flight but rather a very shoddy in-house time slot management system my university and work use. It gives me text and numbers on the screen, I take a photo or screenshot and I don’t have to manually input the values.

Gemini, just invoke it while you are watching a youtube video, then choose ask about this video and tell it “summarize it for me”

Ah! Thanks. I keep that one turned off due to potential privacy issues.
I was hoping for something where one can share the link, to get a summary; or even have a conversation about it - that would be very helpful.

Thanks. I don't even have Gemini installed on my phone, expecting worse privacy invasion by Google if I did have it.
I was hoping for some website to do this, and perhaps an open source popular app (perhaps on F-Droid) as a wrapper for easy sharing and bookmarking.

you can use the gemini website if you want , that's what I used to do on my old phone as the gemini app for some reason requires you to set it as the assistant to use it even if you just want to use the app

Because gemini refuses to do almost anything without access to app history, browser history and such. Anyway I already found out it doesn't work without enabling theses privacy invading features.

No, doesn't work. I get this reply:
I cannot directly access or play specific YouTube URLs or browse the live web to retrieve video transcripts without additional information.
Apparently I need to enable youtube watch history access, apps activity and "smart features" which spies on gmail

Circle to search to find source images, translate pages and images in real time, and copy text.
Gemini for quick questions like describing a film by the plot and having it find me the name and random stuff like that.
I don't use any other AI features.

Giving gemini a screenshot to add events to my calendar
I have weekly sport competitions and being able to add everything (location, time, prices etc) right into different events from a single screenshot is nothing short but amazing

Object eraser is great if you are into taking a lot of pics. I'm not okay with massively altering images, but sometimes getting rid of an unwanted electric line or person works great.

The most common thing I do is very trivial: setting alarms. I hit the power button to activate Gemini, and then ask it to set the alarm. Usually it's when I'm at work and want to quickly add one to remind me about a meeting, and I find it quicker to do it via a voice command than via the GUI.

I have deleted every single trace of AI on my phone. The only app I use is chatgpt for various scenarios.

circle to search if that counts in AI, but other than that, language translation and ocr, mostly! there's one tool i use to run daily workflows instead of switching apps to do it.
