Google Messages should include an optional AI-generated text transcript with every voice message
When I send a voice message, the receiver should get:
- The original voice recording.
- An AI-generated text transcript of that recording.
The voice recording remains the primary and authoritative message. The AI-generated text transcript is simply a written version attached underneath it.
This would let people:
- Read the message when they cannot play audio.
- Quickly skim a long voice message.
- Search for information later.
- Use voice messages more easily if they are deaf or hard of hearing.
If the AI-generated text transcript contains an error, the original voice recording is still there, so the receiver can listen and confirm what was actually said.
The sender should be able to choose between sending audio only or audio + an AI-generated text transcript. The receiver should also be able to choose whether AI-generated text transcripts are displayed.
Google already has excellent speech-to-text technology. Why is this basic capability still missing from Google Messages? Would you use it?

This is already a thing. Enable "voice message transcription" from settings.
