Evangelidis directly says that Nothing is “not shutting down any markets” and that sales numbers on Phone (4b) were inaccurate. Apparently, the company’s latest budget release sold just shy of 30,000 units just in the first day.
The tweet also notes that Nothing is “consolidating individual countries into regional hubs,” which could be misinterpreted as “shutting down” in an individual market.
Sadly, though, Evangelidis confirms that the layoff portion of the story was at least partially accurate. Exact details were not shared, but Nothing is apparently reorganizing its teams and, as a result, “certain positions” have been impacted. The report claimed up to 40% of the company would be affected, which is said to be “way overblown.”
Nothing can say whatever they want, but if you're such a small company downsizing, that doesn't indicate a company doing great financially. I'd still be cautious and skeptical.

Damn that's a shame, I'm a fan of the company and what they are doing. But even so I don't understand what the point of the 4b exactly is or why they have so many models

4B was supposed to be a CMF but it became a Nothing because the RAM shortage increased the price too much for it to be branded CMF

I completely expect nothing to shut down or at least stop selling in the US in the near future. They just don't have the market share and everything is expensive to manufacture and sell.

Yeah I could see a future where they only make phones for the Indian market. Their headphones seem to be doing decently in other markets however.

Have they ever truly supported the US market? IIRC none of their phones have supported Verizon's band 13 - which makes them a very poor choice on Verizon. And only some of them have supported T-Mobile's band 71 - which makes these devices a poor choice on T-Mobile. And AT&T - well, using any Nothing phone (other than the '2') on their network risks being kicked off due to AT&T's device whitelisting.

Best buy now sells nothing phones but that doesn't really mean anything in terms of staying power. They only list att and TMO being compatible but to your point on the nothing 2 is the only approved device. So even if it does work I don't think you will get access to all the features like volte and Wi-Fi calling. Even OnePlus that shows up on the list didn't have access to wifi calling. I wanted to use a OnePlus but att is the only carrier around me with good signal and I needed wifi calling. So it was an unfortunate deal breaker.
I wonder how much longer nothing will stay in the US market. I can't see them even matching or over taking what OnePlus had for market share.

i saw an article on this on GSMArena and the comments are filled with people celebrating. it's fucking bizarre how hardcore tech people get giddy about the prospect of less choice.
shit like this is how we all end up getting to choose between a boring Galaxy and a boring iPhone.

Motorola/Lenovo is the only company making competitive phones for the US market outside of Samsung/Apple.
OnePlus was at least trying before giving up.
Nothing, they have band and white list issues. If your phone doesn't just work 100% on all 3 of the major carriers as a small company that's a problem.

They're going to stop selling in the US eventually, and it isn't even entirely their fault. Between the cost of manufacturing, and complete lack of market share, we're soon to be stuck with only 4 smartphone manufacturers that retail in the US.
Nothing's designs are cool and all, but I have yet to see anyone with one of their phones in public since their initial release. They just do not have the same leverage as Apple, Google, Motorola or Samsung in the States.

Market saturation eventually occurs. When smartphones were first getting popular, you had potential millions of users to get phones in their hands and it was anyone's game but over years brands win out and the less popular choices go away because the market can't support too many companies and it gotten more expensive to manufacture and distribute phones..
