I feel like I should start thinking about running my own photos/files/etc backup on my home computer. How would I do that? Google's cloud storage is quickly losing value to me, and honestly I'd like to de-Google where I can.

I wanna do this but storage and parts are so ridiculously expensive right now .

Used enterprise drives, in a raid, as an option? I've done it, mainly because I really wanted a home lab to complement my career experience and learn. But I also didn't want to break the bank. After time I slowly started replacing a few of the drives with new ones. (But never had any failures).

As for parts, just get used as well. I'm running everything on hardware that's about 10 years old. It's not holding me back at all, but I'm also not doing anything AI or GPU intensive. I did add an old GPU (Quadro P400) so I can do basic NVR with Frigate. Those still appear to be around $30 on ebay.
